Sharing my animal compatabilty matrix (who can live with who!)

So this is a little premature because I'm not even a third of the way through yet (turns out there are loads of combinations!) but I wanted to get feedback in case you think I need to change something (easier to do near the start!).

I've seen some people surprised by the small number of animals who can share a habitat - I think they are interpreting 'enriched by' as the same as 'can live with'. Everyone is probably working out now that there are loads of animals that will tolerate each other but knowing who you might be able to stick together is all a bit hit and miss. So I started building myself a matrix spreadsheet so I can plan my zoos better.

My main finding so far is that there are loads of combinations that work even with perfect terrain and coverage scores. For example as I was experimenting I created this habitat which has African buffalo, African Elephant, Aldabra Giant Tortoise, Baird's Tapir, Black Wildebeest, Bongo, Bonobo, Bornean Orangutan, Chinese Pangolin and Galapagos Giant Tortoise. I'm not saying that it's a good idea but it is technically possible!

At the moment my system is:

Red = will basically kill each other
Orange = either the terrain needs don't overlap or they do but there will be intimidation (marked with a letter I)
Light green = won't kill each other and the terrain needs can overlap but coverage doesn't
dark green = It is possible to get the coverage and the terrain scores in the green and as far as I can tell they will be fine.

awesome and thanks for sharing. it would be great to have the underline directly in the picture/ doument. what does 'I' and 'E' stand for?

I can contribute that gharials and komodos live well in one habitat (it was an accident, thus not tested for terrain and plant needs).

Ooooh, this is cool! This seems like a heckuva lot of work, but very useful! Do you plan to fill out the whole sheet?

Yep, just working my way through bit by bit! I usually do a bit of testing whenever I run out of ideas for creating anything new in my zoos.

I is for intimidation (the african buffalo and wild dogs have compatible terrain and plant requirements and won't kill each other but the buffalo chase the wild dogs around and you get a message saying intimidation is happening!)
E is for enrichment to indicate where you get the inter-species bonus

When i'm done I'm going to stick in a proper key

@Cocolori Do the intimidated animals get stressed or otherwise negatively impacted by the intimidating animal?

Not that I noticed, I can imagine a situation though where in a small space they wouldn't get a lot else done (like eating or drinking). I've only seen it once with the african buffalo and wild dog and I didn't leave them in that long to see what happened after the wild dog ran away. Would be an interesting experiment, may not be a problem with loads of space in the habitat.

whats very funny is that the giant panda has an animation fleeing an habitat with other animals by climbing over the fence

Great resource, thanks for sharing! Posting to contribute info.

I think you can go ahead and mark Greater Flamingos/Indian Peacocks dark green. I've got them in a big walkthrough enclosure that's absolutely swamped with people and currently I (think I remember from last time I played) both species are hovering in the mid-upper 90%'s for environmental satisfaction, which is my fault because I put in more plants than they love (what can I say, it looks nicer). Terrains are at 100% for each and I'm using Peacock preferences for foliage, since they're the pickier of the two, and the flamingos are perfectly content with the situation. They seem to happily ignore each other.

Only issue is the flamingos are a little more sensitive to being looked at than the peafowl, so I had to place foliage somewhat strategically, paired with a bunch of "do not disturb" signs to keep their stress levels low enough to deal with guests.

Again, this is a great resource. I look forward to seeing your updates!

I have an enclosure in one of my career mode Zoos that has flamingos and gharials in it with no issues so far. Maybe I just got lucky or its a bug.

Just a disclaimer, river hippos and Indian rhinos will try to kill each other. They might overlap in terrain and coverage but they shouldn't be placed together.
