shattered horizon as a model for Zero G combat outside of ship?

Would shattered horizon be a good model to use for zero G combat?

I think jet-packs are overused for Zero G FPS combat. While it makes sense outside of the ship on the inside (in boarding actions and such) I'd like to see people having to use the walls, grab handles and anything else insider their ship to move themselves around.

I also don;t like the idea of a radar. While it makes sense in a dedicated FPS I don't think it fits with Elite.

well im sure indoor combat will be different , but im talking more about outside the ship in open space.

as for radar , its an essential part of the game , what are you talking about?

I'd love to see situations like in Dark Forces II when you're stuck on a falling ship and everything in the ship is Zero G and tumbles about so you're having to walk up walls and ceilings to get to where you need to go.

Radar for FPS combat is what I mean.

It makes sense for the ships but I'm not a fan of radar telling the there's a human target around the corner. It doesn't fit the Elite universe.

Why would you ever be fighting on foot in open space? I can't think of any scenario where that would occur.
I haven't played shattered horizons, but I looked on a few videos. It's interesting, I don't think there are many Zero-G combat games out there.

The thing is, Elite isn't a FPS. Even when first person movement and first person fighting is implemented, it still will not be a FPS! This, I think, gives Elite the freedom, or maybe even the need, to move away from FPS tropes when implementing first-person combat.
I think combat on foot should be completely brutal. Something like Arma, maybe. When not carrying reactive armor, a hit practically anywhere should almost always incapacitate you. Reactive armor should be rendered useless after just a few hits, and conventional armor should only slightly reduce the effectiveness of enemy fire.

Owning military materiel is considered illegal in most places. Personal defence weapons like pistols and knives are always allowed onboard, but in many places you are not allowed to walk around armed on stations or planets.
Murder is severly punished, and various forms of suit monitors and transponders make murder without being detected almost impossible on worlds with law.

There is also non-lethal combat and melee weapons. These include things like Electric pistols, Stun Batons, Knives, Daggers, and your own body. In zero-g, momentum is extremely important. For example, supporting yourself against the structure of your ship and punching or kicking your opponent while they are in free flight is likely to smack them into a wall.

Combat on foot should be rare, unless you actively seek it.

This is how I envision personal combat in E: D.

no. i played shattered horizon for a bit but it didn't work as a first person shooter. it played more like a space sim but instead of being in a ship, you're in a suit. mechanically it was just too complex for a shooter. you have all the axes to manage not just run+jump. it's real 3d combat and i just don't think this belongs in a first person shooter.

however, i actually thought about a low gravity first person combat with jetpacks.

Shattered Horizon was a brave try. I hope Elite will be fairly slow paced in 1st person mode as well. The needs of VR make it pretty much a requirement.
