Shepherding the Galaxy: A Call to Commanders to Maintain a Reasonable Status Quo

While my ship will not be space worthy until the 16th, I have been following the events currently unfolding in Lugh. Whether it is ultimately good or bad for our civilizations, I do not yet know. However, it is... disturbing. A group of motivated Commanders have started a movement there and are attempting to prove that groups of people can drastically influence the galactic balance of power. They care not for the people of that system, or the lives that will be lost as a result of the ensuing chaos. They only want to ignite a revolution in order to prove they can.

I propose that a society of Commanders be formed. It's mission will be to ensure that the best interests of the galaxy be looked after. It will ensure that the Milky Way remains an interesting place to inhabit. It will ensure that unbalanced chaos is not sewn by the whims of religious fanatics or power-hungry psychopaths. It will ensure that innocent lives are not needlessly lost, and our ability to conduct business as usual, whatever that may be, is protected. It will ensure that a reasonable balance of power is maintained, so that the galaxy does not stagnate or get thrown into irrevocable chaos. This society should span all nationalities and all professions. It will need pirates, psychopaths, white knights, mercenaries, smugglers, and traders. It will require assassinations, and all manner of noble and dastardly deeds. It will need a council to decide when and where it is appropriate to intervene. Because if we let groups of commanders run amok, causing revolutions, wars, and economic chaos, I fear that all of our civilizations could potentially fail. Members would be free to pursue their own causes and interact with each other in whatever way they see fit, but they should be prepared to support the society's decisions. Regions of space will change allegiences, but the society could ensure it doesn't get out of hand. If change is the vehicle, then we would be the brakes; to make sure the galaxy doesn't get off track.

As to Lugh. It might be best to let those events unfold or even aid these Lughites; to see whether or not an entire system can change hands based on the ravings of one madman. We could then see if the Crimson State has the potential to spread it's influence to other systems. If not, perhaps a society is not needed after all. But, if so, what is to stop the Empire from consuming the Federation, or the Alliance from consuming them both? Or the Crimson State from consuming everyone? Will their sun god save them from alien threats? The galaxy would be a much less interesting place should that happen. What do you think, Commanders? I yield the floor to those with more experience in these matters. The relevant reports on events in Lugh are here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71699&highlight=lugh
