Ships Shield And Hull Resistances.

Resistances .. As I try to balance and maximise the resistance percentages in the yellow box, the figures in the red box decrease. Am I better getting the figures in the red boxes as high as poss or is it better to have high percentages in the yellow box? It’s as though I’m improving each type of resistance but making the overall effectiveness worse. It’s for PVE stuff by the way as opposed to PVP.

Don't focus on the absolute shield and integrity in the red box. Look at the HP boxes. This is the effective strength of each of these when the absolute figures are modified by the resistances.

You have 1190 effective MJ for your shields against thermal attacks, showing the work you've done on resistances essentially doubled your shield strength against these attacks.

These are all excellent and this ship is highly survivable and elastic against any type of attack. Good work.

To answer the question on which to prioritize.... just as you've done. Strike a balance.

Thanks very much for that, so would these rules apply regardless of whether I was using the ship in PVE against ‘dumb’ NPC targets or in PVE against human players?
 
Yes, but in PvP you have more specialized weapons that can ignore or bypass certain defenses, so consider my assessment for PvE only.

Honestly you did a great job with your Chief defenses in my view. This is just how I build my ships, with resistances a primary focus. The way HRP resistances stack is very effective and high resitances on your shields make them more 'elastic' which is the word I like to use. Thermal attacks especially. It will be very hard to have your shields collapse in PvE with this build. Nice ship mate.
 
Focusing on a resistances build is really nice until you crash into things, you get rammed or you meet a plasma user
So keep in mind that collisions of any type are doing absolute damage and plasma weapons are doin 60% absolute, 20% kinetic and 20% thermal

Also, dont try this against Thargoids, they do mostly caustic damage
