Ship Builds & Load Outs Shield Boosters - which Resistance mod?

Cheers everyone!

I need some feedback on how to mod the Shield Boosters on my combat ships. I'm a big fan of Bi-Weave shields, using them on all of my ships, therefore don't wanna go for high Mj number to keep the regen time as low as possible (Reinforced Shields though, to have at least some headroom).

The conclusion of this is not to go with Heavy Duty Boosters, but Resistance Boosters.

BUT... Should I go with an all out Resistance Augmented build, or rather put a heavy emphasiz on Thermal Resistance, since the most damage to shields still comes from lasers...?

What do you guys think, would love to get some input on this! :)

wrong mod on your bi-weave shield, as diminuishing returns for resistances kick in at 30% above your shield stats.

mod it thermal resistant, aim for balanced kinetic/thermal resistance, add 3 augmented resistance boosters, and fill the rest with e-class boosters heavy duty.

Soo, if I have understood you correctly, an example on a Gunship with G3 mods (everything I can currenctly do) would like like this:

Is that right?

The thing I don't understand: Why the class E Booster for Heavy Duty? I neither have a problem with the weight, nor the power draw from A class.

The increase to shield capacity is significantly greater on the E boosters than it is on the A boosters (although a maximum roll E will still have slightly less overall than a maximum roll A) -and the increase to mass is less.

exactly. I'd add that the excessive powerdraw of hd-a class booster adds a lot of resting heat.

but on a gunship i'd run only 2-3 res augmented booster, eventually chaff and pointdefence/ecm for sure. you don't want your hardpoints or thrusters crippled by missiles, when your shield fails.

But the effective Shield Boost is still the Best on A Boosters though...?

I just took a quick comparison using the beta site of coriolis, since it shows the effective shield strength already:

Thermal Resist Shields:

Reinforced Shields:

Indeed. However the resistance of the shield with the thermal resist modification should compensate for that, to some extent at least - although that depends on whether the attacker is using lasers or kinetics.

Reductions in mass and power drain assuming there's no significant downside are a must have.

On an FGS power isn't that much of an issue and because it's almost 1000 T combat ready a few additional tons isn't going to change speed/agility and jump range to a noticeable degree but for exploration ship builds and lightweight fighters (iCourier for example) a few tons can make a huge difference in performance.

On a Vulture using thermal and kinetic resistant boosters instead of resist aug can free up a useful amount of power (0.6 - 0.8 MW) and a nicely balanced spread of resistances

Thanks a lot for your input guys!

This is what I'm currently running:

Didn't have the mats for a G3 Thermal Shield mod, thus went for G3 Reinforced. It's such a pleasure to fly this Anaconda now, don't even need SCB in a Conflict Zone anymore. :)

My lowest resist on my bi-weave shields is 57% thermal. The others are over 60%

thermal resist shields
8 class D shield boosters
1 kinetic
3 augmented
4 heavy duty
