Newcomer / Intro Shield Generator stats ?

So I have been wanting to look at a new shield generator for my ship, but how do I know whether or not a shield generator is better than the one I got already ? - The comparison window doesn't seem to give off a lot of info when it comes to this :/

It should give you a letter and a number.
The letter can range from A - H, this is the rating of the module.
The number will indicate the size of the module.

B is better then C is better then D, as long as your class stays the same. So for example, my Viper started out with a E3 class shield and I upped it to a B3 class. The tonnage and power draw increased, as well as the shield strength (but the shield strength isn't a listed stat).

To be on the safe side, when you're considering buying a new module select it and use the 'compare' button, this gives you a breakdown of how it will affect your ship (mass, power draw, etc) with handy blue (good) and red (bad) indicators.
Note that better modules (lower rating, as previous posters explained) will generally require more power, use the 'modules' tab on the right-hand menu to see how power you're using (especially when you've deployed hard-points).

Be sure to look at the number you have first.

If you have a size 3E shield, you'll want a 3D, 3C, 3B, or 3A. They get better, and more expensive, in this order. But you never want to decrease the number, which indicates the size your ship requires. Also pay attention to power requirements.

There's a lot to learn, but that's 1/2 the fun!

(but the shield strength isn't a listed stat).

I find this kind of frustrating, as it sometimes makes it tough to evaluate ship loadouts. For example, I can't currently fit the 3A or 3B shield gens on my Eagle, because the power requirements are too high with the other modules I've got installed (before anyone asks, I have a 2A power plant, the best you can get for the Eagle). I could potentially drop or change out some other modules for lower power ones, which would allow me to fit a "better" shield gen than my 3C, but I have no hard data to determine how much of an upgrade the 3B or 3A gens are compared to the 3C.

Has anyone run across any FD info on why shield strength isn't a displayed stat, or if they plan to make it one in the future?

I have seen better parts (toward A class) that consume less power so it is a delicate balance. In theory, you should be able to load up your ship with all A parts assuming you have the best power plant and power distributor you can have. I understand even with A part power plant, some C D E part might still draw too much power, until you upgrade them to A as well... If not, then the devs should fix something.

It is always a delicate process to evaluate.

Yeah, I've also heard that theory, but it definitely doesn't seem to work like this for me - I have the class A distributor as well as the class A plant, but simply don't have enough power to run A modules of everything else (and yes, they're all the appropriate number class, no class 2's in a 3 slot or anything like that). Also, better class does not always correspond to less power consumed - many of the class A parts draw more power than the lower letters. I'll edit this to post some shots of my current outfitting screen when I get home later today.

Dont forget that some things you can turn off when you draw weapons - set the priority in the modules tab on the panel on the right, the lower priority (higher numbers, priority 1 is top) items will get switched off when there is too much demand. Cargo hatch is a good choice, or the FSD (since you can't activate it with weapons drawn anyway). This means your power plant can provide less power than you need, without it being crippling, as you just set up what is active and what is not.

So what is the shield strength stat? Rating or Integrity? I assume an A shield has the most shield strength of it's size but what is that Integrity stat?
