Newcomer / Intro Shield Generators?

I've been busy upgrading my ASP but have a question on the shield generators. All other components when upgraded show a marked improvement in their ability for example frame shift drive shows you how much further you can jump, power plant shows you how much more power is available but there is little info on the shield generators. It is currently at 5C and I was going to upgrade to 5B but the only difference seems to be the C/B, the amount of power it draws and the weight of it. There is no information on how much (if any)stronger they are. I think if they had like a MW capacity field it would give an idea of how the upgrade performs.

Does upgrading make the shields stronger to withstand attack for longer?

The biggest difference you will see with shield strength would be if you upgrade the number instead of the letter - a 6D shield would be significantly stronger than a 5A I think.

Of course this does mean switching around your internal compartments and sacrificing / downgrading whatever you currently have in a size 6 compartment so is probably only worth it if you expect to be seeing a lot of combat.

*Note : I got rid of my Asp a couple of weeks ago so I'm not 100% sure it has a size 6 internal compartment.

Upgrading from a 5D shield to a 5A will improve performance but you will need to make your own call on the Cost:Benefit

You can look on the ED Shipyard site and get a MJ value if you need it for any shields.

(5C = Opt: 405 T; Max: 1,013 T; Str: 183.32 MJ / 5B = Opt: 405 T; Max: 1,013 T; Str: 197.32 MJ)
