Newcomer / Intro Shield Only Showing 2 Red Rings??

I upgraded my sidewinder with Power Plant C, Power Distributor B, Fuel Scoop and Kill Warrant

Now my shields never fully recharge. They are always showing 2 red rings and never fill back up to 100% blue.

What am I doing wrong please?

That means your shields are not powered. i.e. they are offline.

Check that the shield generator is active in your modules tab or the right-hand UI screen.

next disable things you don't need by changing their priority

i.e. make fuel scoop and cargo scoop lowest priority, fsd next lowest etc (you don't use fuel scoop or FSD when your hardpoints are extended).

the bars at the bottom show you power usage with hardpoints retracted and extended.

When you extend your hardpoints, the lowest priority items switch off in turn until you are no longer drawing more than 100%.

1. look at the right-hand side panel. check under modules. is the shield gen ONLINE or OFFLINE?
2. in that same window, there are 2 bars at the bottom. the lower one should be MAX 100%. If it's over 100, then you are overloaded. Try putting other modules (like interdictor, or fuel scoop) into priority 2, and keep shield priority 1. then go back to outfitting :)
3. using arrow keys (or whatever if ur on XB1), put some power into SYS in your system distribution.

I looked in my Modules tab to the right and there is not even a shield generator shown in the list.
I then started re prioritizing most items to spot 4 or 5 and just leaving important sounding items on 1 or 2.
There is a power bar along the bottom that is completely filled with solid and claims 100%

Hmmm, I'm almost wanting to get blown up by someone and when asked if I want to start with plain jane sidewinder just to get another fresh start but then I am afraid when I start upgrading I will run into the shields offline again.

As above, there is an item called a shield cell bank. I've made the mistake before of fitting one of those instead of a generator.

They are basically shield health potions with a delayed effect.

Yes you need to actually have a shield generator if you want to have shields (I believe some people operate without them).

If you are still in your starter sidewinder then you really don't need to waste the power budget that a KWS uses (a 0A KWS would use up nearly half of your power capacity) - if you kill a wanted ship you will get the bounty credit in the system that you are in. If you are thinking about becoming a bounty hunter for a career then you really need to learn a bit more about stuff first to be honest.

First off - in your modules page deselect (make not active) your cargo hatch (scoop) - you only need to power it up when you want to use it and otherwise it takes up 0.6 megawatts (MW).

Secondly - power off each of your priority 5 items and see the effect on the power bar, then do the same for priority 4 items - as you move up and on in ships and equipment you can do this to check to make sure you don't drop into a combat situation and find that when you deploy your hardpoints everything shuts down!

Power Generator - you said you fitted a C power plant - a 2C plant gives you 8 MW to play with (the number is the size and the letter is it's rating) so what have you got fitted that is using up that 8MW?

Use the websites coriolis or ED Shipyard, use them to work out what to fit and what it does to your ship:

No need for that - on the main menu (not the pause menu) - select OPTIONS - in there you can select CLEAR SAVE and that will let you start afresh.

Also if you want just hit boost while inside a station, you will bounce about and blow up, your insurance screen gives you options to start again if you want (or restart with your old / last loadout which is not much use to you as that is why you suisidey'ed in the first place).

A final option is to select self-destruct - does the same.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally sell off your shield generator?

OK you all have been very helpful and appreciate the support.
It appears I must have dumped my shield generator when I purchased my fuel scoop.
When I re-purchased my shield generator it forced me to sell of my fuel scoop.
Is my problem my internal compartments are filled with things like Planetary Vehicle Hangar and Planetary Approach Suite and I need to dump something in an internal compartment in order to make room for the fuel scoop?

If I sell these internal compartment items do I get full credit back for them or do you take a hit on the sell back?

Currently when you sell components, you get 100% of the value. In fact, you should sell/downgrade everything before you sell your ship. Any components remaining on the ship when you sell the ship will only get 90% of the value. Some components you must have, so downgrade those to the cheapest possible.

With regards to ship building, use one of the two ship building sites mentioned above. They'll let you play around with components and power requirements outside of the game so you can experiment to your heart's content. Planetary Suite is its own slot and can't be repurposed for other stuff.

Since you bought a KWS, I assume you're doing bounty hunting. Here's a simple bounty hunting Sidewinder build with fuel scoop:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/sidewinder/02A2A2A1D1A1D1C18180m003r2o--.Iw1-EA==.Aw1-EA==

That leaves you with two class 1 slots empty for other stuff.

You have only a limited space in the little sidewinder - 2 x size 2 and 2 x size 1 - (the planetary approach suite is not usable for anything else) - you should use one size 2 for a shield gen and you use the others depending upon what you want to do. You do get all of your credits back when you sell modules so you can experiment all you like (remember to sell / downgrade weapons and modules before you sell a ship because ship sales deduct 10%).

Remember you only need a fuel scoop if you intend travelling further than a tank will take you. You earn money by selling "cartographic data" so have a discovery scanner on your journeys, assign it to a fire button and fire away when you arrive in a system that is "undiscovered" to you - i.e. your scanner is empty when you first arrive. You should also "target" the star when it appears, you will see the target panel says "scanning" and when finished you will see what type of star it is, that makes the data you sell worth more. You sell exploration data in "Cartographic Services" of a station or outpost but they will only buy data that is from more than 20 LY away.

You only need a planetary vehicle hangar (plus the vehicle bay inc SCV) if you want to drive on the surface of planets - so just kit out for that when you need to.

If you have the time and enough credits to do it, you could try to travel to system Wyrd and when there deliver 1 t of tantalum (get it in nearby systems) for the community goal (CG) - that way you will earn a reward of 400,000 credits when the CG ends at 15:00 UTC Thursday 19th May (today). Make sure you sign up for the community goal before selling your tantalum though. If you can't afford any tantalum, go to the station, dock then switch to open play and see if someone will give you a container of tantalum - I'll bet they will - you just have to meet them outside and scoop up the container.

I give more details about the CG in this thread - it can give you a good start but there are always otehrs if this one is not feasible.
