Ship Builds & Load Outs Shield recovery speeds - quantified

Patch notes said:
...
- Increased the maximum speed of recovery for collapsed shields (especially larger shields)
...
- Shields regenerate at a much faster rate while docked
...

Now I can reveal by how much ;)

Test setup

Anaconda with 6X A grade shield boosters, all fittable classes of shield (3 to 7) were tested, for the most part, A grade generators were used, with a couple of other types tested
Each shield rebuild phase was recorded at 60fps, timed from when "Recharging" appears in the shield indicator (in other words, after the 16s startup delay) to when the shields became active.

Shield MJ values taken from Coriolis.io. Since the bonus recharge speed only applies to the rebuild phase (which takes the shields up to 50%), we can half this value to determine this rate. The shield values will be given below for convenience.

Results

A5 shield - 932MJ, rebuilds 466MJ
Rebuild time flying - 11181 frames (@ 60fps) - 186.4s
Rebuild time while docked - 1116frames - 18.6 sec
Rebuild rate(flying) = 466/186.4 = 2.5 MJ/sec
Rebuild rate(docked) = 466/18.6 = 25.1 MJ/sec

The shield regeneration rate while docked is 10X that of normal

A grade shields

A7 shield - 1309MJ, rebuilds 654.5MJ
Rebuild time flying - 9817 frames, 163.6 seconds
Rebuild rate(Flying) = 654.5/163.6 = 4.0 MJ/sec

A6 - 1105MJ -> 552.5MJ
Rebuild time docked 1036 frames - 17.2 sec
Rebuild rate docked = 32.1MJ/sec
Estimated rebuild rate flying - 3.2MJ/sec

A4 - 719MJ -> 359.5MJ
Rebuild time docked 1136 frames - 18.9 secs
Rebuild rate docked = 19.0 MJ/sec
Estimated rebuild rate flying = 1.9 mj/sec

A3 - 539MJ -> 269.5MJ
Rebuild time flying 10115 frames - 168.6 s
Rebuild rate flying = 1.6 mj/sec

Other Tests

D7 - 1078mj -> 539
Rebuild time docked 812 frames - 13.5 secs
Rebuild rate docked = 39.9 MJ/Sec
Estimated rebuild flying = 4mj/sec

The size of the shield determines the rebuild rate, therefore all Size 7 shields rebuild at 4mj/sec, all size 6 at 3.2 etc.

C7 Biweave 1078mj -> 539
Rebuild time while docked 542 frames - 9 secs
Rebuild rate docked = 59.9MJ/sec
Estimated rebuild flying = 6mj/sec
The +50% bonus of Biweave shields stacks with the size bonus.

A7 no boosters active - 595Mj -> 297.5
Rebuild while docked 446 frames - 7.4 secs
Rebuild rate docked = 40.2Mj/sec
Estimated rebuild flying = 4MJ/sec

Shield boosters do not affect rebuild rate.

Result summary
Size 3 shields = 1.6Mj/sec
Size 4 = 1.9MJ/sec
Size 5 = 2.5MJ/sec
Size 6 = 3.2MJ/sec
Size 7 = 4.0MJ/sec

Other things

The 16s delay before shields rebuilding is not present when docked.

There seems to be a discrepancy between how much is drawn from the sys capacitor and how much goes into the shields, an A8 distributor at 2 pips to sys was draining ever so slightly while charging the A7 shield.
Assuming the recharge rate is linear with the number of pips, then an A7 shield was taking slightly more than 2.4MJ/sec from the system capacitor, and providing 4MJ/sec in return.

Size 2 and 8 shields, i'll get round to them, maybe, or someone else can test them :)

It was my understanding that the change made shields recharge a rate depending on the shield size, pip allocation, and distributor output. Am I mistaken about this?
