Shield Strength indicators on HUD and greater control over shields.

I would love to see a more comprehensive shield control system, even allow partial shield strength setting to allow for faster recharge time or lower power consumption.

More importantly though, can we please get some numbers on our shield strength and recharge/rebuild time? I find it very difficult to gauge whether to run or keep fighting by looking at the hue of a circle on my HUD. It would be much better if I knew how many hitpoints my shield could still take and compare it to what my enemy's ship can deal out.

Lastly, my shield strength is literally just a number on the ship info tab. It's very hard to understand what a number means without any units or indication on how this number is determined. Knowing more about my shields would greatly help in building a good ship.

On the display issue i agree. A lot of what the came calls "HUD" actually is just "holographic HDD". (Head up vs. head down. )

The actual idea of a HUD is to have the most valuable and most critical information right at the pilots point of view, at the center. In ED some of the most essential info is placed at the edge of the screen, though. And things get even worse if you use an eye tracker. The whole holo-display we have doesn't use any of its advantages, but is fixed to certain locations.

So a real improvement would be to have some info on the helmet mounted display. It should be just the most crucial things. Hull and shield (own ship and target ship), heat, speed and perhaps a few of the most important warning messages. (But not the whole plethora of "urgent, urgent, the cheese in the fridge will expire in two days" warning messages. )
