Shield Strength Survival

No shield is strong enough if you do not fly evasively once interdicted.
Straight lines mean death.
(obviously this is not 100% accurate, but for the values and ships you are most likely looking at, its pretty much on the button)

I just like having lots of shields.

Shield raw strength is pretty much meaningless (outside of top tier dedicated PvP against PA FDLs). People I fight usually think I am running engineered prismatics and are shocked when I tell them I actually have Bi-weave.
4 pips to systems = 225% more shields , never forget that.
50% resistance to the shield = 100% more damage needed to get through you
So .. a 4 pip shield with 50% resistance of 1000MJ will take 4000MJ of damage.
Resistances over 50% have diminishing returns.. so go heavy duty after that
Pick a ship with lots of utility slots - put lots of shield boosters there with a mix of resistances so you end up with +50% in everything

Do not underestimate the power of a good hull. Lots of paper ships out there that break into pieces once their shield is down:
Get at least a couple of upgrades to the hull. The best investment is reactive engineered with thermal resist.
The same thing applies with hull as the shields. The nice trick here is that a mere Class 1 Hull Reinforcement with 30% resist will improve your hull dramatically
So stack a few low class hull reinforcements until your resistances are again at least over 30%
With a bit of investment and engineering you can easily quadruple the amount of hull damage you can take

Also.. the danger of ganking is totally and grossly overrated. I just spent yesterday 4 hours trading with my Cutter about 50-100 Ly around Sol with a Multi-hop route. I didn't meet a single commander.. NONE.. nevermind a ganker. I was actually hoping to gank some hostile power CMDrs while trading. Got tired of not meeting anyone and swapped my interdictor for an automatic docking as the only rebuy I faced was getting stuck with my Cutter in the station, unable to logout quickly enough before blasted to pieces.

As for combat logging (exit to menu in 15secs)? Sure.. you have the legal right to do it but you might as well play in Solo. The whole point to gank evasion is the feeling you have bested your attacker using in-game mechanics. Makes it sweeter.
