Greetings!
So in this thread I will address shields and how they in their current state are working in quite strange ways.
I've been doing a lot of duels lately and I personally prefer a hull tank FAS for this and that is also how I noticed a few things.
1. Hull protected by a shield will be intact no matter the force, if you are flying a space ship. In an SRV however the shield only protect from projectiles, not driving into stuff or being rammed.
2. Ramming with shields imposes little to no risk to the rammer. Even when hull mass is below that of the target. I will have to collect more data here because I know if I ram a Corvette in a Courier, the Courier will lose a lot more shield than the corvette. Hull mass seem to have a direct relation to this.
3. Shields form a bubble around a ship usually larger than the ship itself. Ramming someone with the bubble through grazing is possible and is probably the nastiest form of using the "ramglove" as the impact itself won't be noticed on either ship but the damage will be higher than a straight up ram.
In my eyes this is out of place and should not be. I've seen plenty of people straight up fly into planets without a scratch (four pips to sys) and I've done so myself with a 2500mj bi-weave fitted on the insanely heavy cutter. It awards reckless play and anyone without a shield or a shield with a lower value paired with a hull mass lower than that of the opponent will always be at a loss.
My suggestion would be to make shields act just like the SRV shield. It makes a lot of sense and balances the ram issue out.
Keep it clean and discuss away!
