Newcomer / Intro Shields - do they make you more visible...?

If I'm sneaking around a settlement (at night, crouched, Night Vision on, just about invisible) - do I make myself MORE VISIBLE by turning my shields on.....?
(when targetting enemies, I always notice the glow of the shields)

No, not as far as I can tell. Neither does having your flashlight on.

Crouching makes you more silent, too. You can just about walk right up to someone from behind if you crouch and they'll never turn.
