Newcomer / Intro SHIELDS - how to tell current status?

The '3 blue rings' around your ship icon give an indication of the status of your shield
Is there any way to determine the EXACT percentage of the shield status...?

Sometimes I get the feeling that the designers of the ED UI got their inspiration from driving the first versions of the Mini Metro or the Fiat 500.

I didn't realise this until watching Malic on Twitch recently despite playing the game for over a year. I just always relied on looking at the rings....you learn something new every day! :p

I'm always running the smallest shields I can possibly fit to extend my jump range so it never even occurred to me to look for a percentage as my shields are pretty much gone after the first few shots... good to know this exists though :)
