Shields in supercruise to control wear and tear?

Now that shields work in supercruise, how about they diminish wear and tear?

Maybe the shields would be under a continuous assault in supercruise, a bit less than what a mining laser would be. the visible blue glow that would flicker some.

It would solve the wear and tear madness and the prices wouldn't matter so much if the ship had some shielding.

Shields pause regeneration when they take any damage. Your idea would mean they simply slowly drain while in supercruise until they fail. :D

Plus, afaik the w&t madness should have been fixed now, the current repair cost issues affect hull and module repairs from overheating, weapon fire etc.

Shields were never off in SC (unless you turned them off) they just didn't show on the hud.

Slowly draining until failure, that would be an interesting new twist.
The accumulating damage would resume once they had failed, if you didn't exit to recharge them. I kinda like it.

It also means you would need to prep before entering a fight, and an extended interdiction would leave the lesser prepared ship at an immediate disadvantage

Still they are on, the damage is getting through the shields, why not solve that logical flaw.

It seems you are assuming W&T is caused by objects hitting the hull. Integrity is more likely to do with hull stress (at least that's how it works in the real world) Of course ED is pure fiction, however I doubt anything is hitting the hull whilst in SC, the damage caused would be massive.

Best to think of integrity as the stress on the hull from space being warped and twisted around you in SC. Shields won't do squat to protect your hull.

Only madness regarding W&T is the usual panic you get on this forum, ingame w&t is a minor annoyance at most if you never pay it.

What he said. I don't pay W&T anymore. If it goes to 0%, oh well.

30% less hull hitpoints doesn't matter when you run as soon as your shields go down. Everyone targets your powerplant anyways, well, except npcs.

I think they may have changed powerplant hit rates in 1.3 - on npcs the powerplant doesn't go down nearly as fast as it used to.

Paint strips off like it's being sandblasted so I think your ship does encounter microparticles while in supercruise, but for gameplay reasons they just wash over you instead of turning your ship into very fine swiss cheese.
