Shinrarta Dezhra/Jameson Memorial discount pointless?

So I mostly just messed around in game, doing many different things. Recently however, I decided to push my elite trade rank which I now have. From what I understand, at Jameson Memorial, us Elite pilots get a 10% discount on everything, and the stations sells every ship and module/weapon. Furthermore, according to the wiki, we also get another 2.5% discount everywhere for a total of 12.5% discount so long as we're at Jameson. I understand the convenience of being able to purchase ship and fully outfit it at one place, however, considering that you get at least a 15% default discount at any Li Yong-Rui controlled system, with, I'm assuming, a 2.5% elite pilot discount on top of that for a total of 17.5% discount... kinda makes the other discount... not worth it? I mean, we're talking 5% here. Doesn't sound like a lot, but if you're purchasing one of the "big 3" and fully outfitting it, that 5% comes out to quite a nice chunk of change. Do you think this discount should be increased... or am I just being a pain in the rear?

First off, what 2.5% elite pilot discount are you referring to? This is the first I hear about it.

Second, the convenience of being able to buy *everything* in one place cannot be understated. My home base is indeed in a LYR high tech station, but even I get frustrated at a times because I can't find something there and need to fly around. So Jameson is a massively convenient place for many players to call home because they know they will never ever need to hunt around for ships and parts, including harder to find stuff like all the anti-Thargoid tech. Also, not all ships are sold at a LYR station. I had to fly to Jameson to get the Type 10 as LYR has no control over any Alliance systems. Which means that the same will apply to the Chieftain and Krait as those are also Alliance built ships.

I don't use Shinrarta for purchases, as things are cheaper elsewhere...but that doesn't mean the discount needs to increase.

Jameson is Space Wallmart. You can buy everything there, cheaper than most places - but if you know where to look, that one special part is cheaper elsewhere. You just need to travel to get everything cheaper.

So, No. No need to change things at all.

I go to LYR systems for most everything. There are tools to help you find stuff near home systems. If I ever need a Type 10, I can hop into my Cobra and get to Jameson in short order, ship the Cobra back.

Reminds me of that toy store ad, "There's millions of Jeffery all under under one roof.."

Before I earned an elite rank I used to either use eddb directly and search for Li Yong Rui, high tec systems with at least the ship, or use the Coriolis ship builder and their purchase option.

But once I had access to Founders, it always seemed easier to go there. I used to think the 15% off should be for the Elite ranking, but now I use it I can see why it would be kind of OP. More tenured players already have all the advantages, so it's ok as is.

Time is money.

With the time I save by buying everything in one place, I can earn more credits than I can save by collecting my stuff all over Li Yong-Rui space.

It's also more convenient on top of that... 2:0 for Shinrarta Dezhra.

As others have pointed out, Jameson's inferior discount is balanced by the fact that it carries every single module and ship in the game.

Time is money, right, but when you can find stuff close to your base which may not be close to Dezra, you save time and money. I can also piggyback a mission, which pays more where I am allied.

Solutions vary.

People say time is money, but Money is time rather. As not only are the parts CHEAPER in li yong rui space, but also by buying them cheaper, you get cheaper insurance as a result for the eventual inevitable rebuy. And if you start losing a big 3 to something like Thargoids or PvP content, it'll quickly add up. But then a fool and his money are easily parted.

If I'm buying a Cutter, Corvette or Anaconda I might make the effort to buy them at the cheapest possible source.
Same thing for some of the seriously spendy modules such as hull armour or fuel-scoops.

In general, though, it's not worth the effort of making a 10 minute flight from one system to another just to save a few credits by purchasing a PDist in one place, sensors in another place and life-support somewhere else.
The issue is aggravated by the fact that, while building a ship, you're probably not going to be able to kit it out with all the required weapons & defences in one place so that means making your trolley-dash trips in a ship that's vulnerable to attack.

Damage or, at worst, a rebuy can soon put a big dent in any potential saving, which could have been avoided by outfitting the ship all at one time.

Besides, unless something's really expensive, I doubt anybody who can use SD really pays much attention to the price of modules.
Last thing that made me think twice about buying it was the 8A fuel scoop for my T10. [where is it]

I have a feeling many of you haven't used EDDB parts search function. I outfitted an Anaconda, Python, ASP X, and Orca fully in the past week, each in the same system, all in Li Yong systems. It takes the same amount of effort to go to a Li Yong system as it does Shinrarta. The different is, I'm saving 5% more on everything. Even If I don't get a part or two, making a jump or two to another system... It just doesn't really make sense not to. When 5% equals 50+ million, maybe you'll make the effort for an extra jump. Just my opinion. If you take the time to look, there are plenty of system where you can full outfit ships at a higher discount.

Another thread trying to promote one way of playing over another : there are multiple ways to outfit with different tradeoffs, lots are equally good. Though from the OP user name I guess helping people was not the idea...
