Ships Ship advice, Alliance ships any good?

I'm relatively new to the game and am pretty much a ship collector, I like flying a lot of different ships. I just unlocked the Cutter, which I outfitted as an armed trader. Today I start working on unlocking the Federal Corvette which should only take a few days because I already have most of the rank.

So...I'm looking ahead to what is next after the cutter. I'm leaning toward one of the Alliance ships, either a Chieftain, Challenger or Crusader and even did builds for them up in Coriolis to get a feel for them, but am having trouble deciding.

Anyone who also likes to fly a variety of ships have any recommendations? Like the pros and cons of those 3 vs. each other? I'll accept recommendations for a completely different ship as well if it seems compelling, the alliance ships are just on my short list because I like the look of them as compared to what I'm already flying.

My current fleet, for reference, is:

TradePassengerExplorationMiningCombat
PythonPythonDiamondback XPython (core mining)Krait MkII
CutterDolphinAsp XT9FDL
Beluga LinerCorvette (soon)

I am not looking for "best" ship or whatever....I recognize the progression of ships in the game. I'm more interested in variety, ships that bring a different feel or a different approach to the task. Also should add that I'm not currently interested in the Anaconda at all at this time. That's already on the list to buy eventually and will be added to the exploration column at that time, but not any time soon.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies. if no one does.

Everyone says the crusader is really bad, its not bad, they got all mad hecause it looks similar to the other 2 and now they all hate it.

It jas a good amount of hardpoints, 1 large, 2 medium, 3 small.

It has lots of hull and a not so great shield.

Its pretty agile, with a lot of drift. Its also kinda slow.

But the main point is for sure the fighter bay, you absolutley need to use this for it to be good.

I flew one for a very long time, I never understood why people said It was so bad. its way more fun than either of the other ones, and you can easily play with friends :)

The Problem is it's worse then the Gunship or Krait MkII due to having only one c6 bay compared to the FGSs/MkIIs 2 c6. It's faster then the FGS though, but a lot slower then the Krait MkII. Sure, it costs only half as much as a Krait, but with the current void opal rush, money isn't the issue. Survivability is though, especially for your fighter pilot. It's not a bad ship, but it's worse then it's competitors FGS and MkII.

It is the look of the ships that first got me interested.

But, because its uncool it now is cool. The remaining hipster in me I have not yet killed yearns to be special and ships like this call to me.

The Crusader is the least-owned ship in the game, at least among Inara commanders.

I bought a Chieftain when it first came out. Good ship, there were things I liked about it. Weapons produced a concentrated cone due to nice hardpoint placement.

But I sold it. Too drifty for me. And I'm a shield tanker. Never could get shields I was happy with and sold it. That doesn't mean it's not a good ship, just not the right one for me.

I ignore the Krait because it's a meta ship like the Conda and FDL. Everyone and his dog flies a Krait.

I have a special love for the gunship which is currently my main ship. But the Crusader is brilliant and well balanced. I like the look of the gunship more and it makes me feel like a pro pvp player :)

But I highly recommend the Crusader to everyone

The nice thing about the Alliance ships is their variety of hardpoints means you can have some real fun with your loadout. Lots of different weapon combinations and they have enough agility to put then to good use.

I’ve had some really great times in the Chieftain. It’s two c3’s combined with its speed and handling mean you’re already starting out with a bigger drifty Vulture.

But then it’s got a spare medium hardpoint and three (very cute) small hardpoints!

-rubs hands with glee-

You ever swoop under a ‘Condas belly in a Vulture lining up that perfect PP shot and just wished you somehow also had three rail guns at the ready?

Now you can.

Start with the Chief. Engineer it. Fill it with guardian shield boosters. Then boost out the mail slot like a pterodactyl on heat...

Get bored?

It’s gut internals are the same as the Crusader & Challenger, just swap em over...
