Ship Colour / Paint Jobs

Hello Commanders
Q: I am yet to pay a visit to the ED PS4 shop store, but am I right that through the fitting, I cannot even change the colour of my ships without having to buy a paint job in the ED Store using ED Credits?
Thanks
J

That's correct. Sadly there are no free paint jobs in the game.

This is true, but it's not a bad way for FDev to make some money instead of charging a monthly fee.

I am happy to spend a few euro on this, I look at it like the 12 euro-a-month WoW sub I used to pay for. (which is actually a lot of paint jobs when you think about it<g>)

If they would provide the paint job available to the cobras and vipers to other ships (the flags, fades, etc), I'd throw money at them. Sadly, it's slim pickins' for the larger ships.

True but there is something wrong with how they do it. Paintjobs per ship? I bought 300 Frontier credits to get a point job on my sidewinder but got sidetracked and bought a suit for my avatar and bought a some laser colors. Once I really understood the game I understood I would have wasted real money if I had bought a paint job and made a "wise" investment with my suit and laser colors. I can understand they sell paint jobs for the most expensive ships because you will keep using them but there should be paint jobs you can use on every ship.

I agree that Frontier's art team looks... Lacking.

There isn't much choice for most ships, and there's certainly bias in favour of the Cobra Mk III, especially. (Though on a personal level I can't complain about this :D)

However... In recent weeks, Frontier has clearly been pushing their skin shop. There hasn't been any new Cobra skins for a long time, in fact, the only small ship, AFAIAA, to have received skins other than one-shade paint is the Dolphin. And some people are treating that as an "end-game" ship anyway, due to its unique capabilities.

Yup, the choice of paint jobs does not seem to be very good. For me the problem with how they sell the paint jobs is that it could actually hurt their game extras business. If you bought a paint job for a Sidewinder chances are high you will never buy from the store again. I'm still holding back on buying a paint job for the Cobra because I don't know if I will use it ever again. It might sit in storage until the end of time. Whilst I wanted to buy more credits after I got sidetracked with buying the suit I now are refraining myself to send more real money.

I don't know about the other stuff but it seems like you can fit everything else on every ship but because I'm not sure I'm not so keen any more on buying extra Frontier credits.

I want that... on all the things (esp my ship). Why is this not available? Yes I can get one of those glowy stripy jobs... I might, but it is just ok in my opinion. But that one up there... yes please.

Man, I think all that honking and scanning has gone to your head :p

Personally I think they're fugly. The arrow paint job for the Asp, however, is a Thing of Beauty.

Wasn't the honking... Looking at too many stars up close, do that as many times as I have and you start to see your soul and how empty is has become - like all those bottles of tequila on my ship's deck.
