Ship "Compass" & Thargoid Probe Audio Signal

I don't know if this is something, but as I was flying in my ship last night I realized this compass. I knew I have seen this somewhere before.

So I realized that this pattern is the same as the pattern of spectrograph of the recorded audio from the Thargoid probe .
is that was was meant to be right in front of us FD mentioned some while ago?

The spectrograph is a key for decoding the rest of the signal, which transmits information about a nearby planet. The circle in the spectrograph represents the planet, divided into four quarters, numbered by the symbols in the corners to show the order they are represented in the signal.

First a straight line from the surface of the planet to the centre - representing planetary radius.
Then a line circling above the planet - representing information on its atmosphere.
Two curved lines, like radiation approaching a planet: temperature, I think?
Two straight lines going down to the surface: gravity. I think. I don't fully remember.

As for why the pattern looks similar to our compass, I guess the Thargoids use the same method for portraying a sphere on a 2D plane as we do.

No. That is a diagram of a planet, divided into four numbered quadrants, displaying the attributes that each segment of the probe's chirps corresponds to* - radius, atmosphere, gravity, temperature.

(*Unfortunately the thargoids are bad are counting and the numbers on the diagram don't line up with the chirp segments...)

so the thing on my ship is a diagram of a planet?
No, it's a directional indicator showing which way a thing is. Easiest way to represent that is like a sphere with your ship at the centre. There's only a 2D indicator though so some curved lines get drawn across the circle to help visualise it as a sphere - like the sphere that is the planet being described by the spectogram.
