CQC Ship control in CQC

I had a question about what experience people have had with various types of controllers ?
Basically, I used to play with Keyboard and Mouse - which seemed pretty good.
But last week, I got my VR setup up and running .

Obviously K+M is not ideal for VR. But using the X-box gamepad that comes with the rift; well that's really not great. Speed change seemed too slow for starters, and turning seemed less accurate. Back to K+M it is...
I suspect that using the gamepad in the main game might be better - where obviously the focus isn't so much on combat. But for CQC, where manoeuvrability is pretty important, it didn't seem to cut it.

I've not had any experience with a Hotas, anyone like to comment how it compares to K+M (especially in CQC but also the main game) ?
Also, does anyone actually play CQC with a gamepad [with any success... :) ] ?

Basically I don't want to splash out on a Hotas if it's only going to be as much use as the gamepad...

P.S. CQC in the Rift is pretty awesome - F.D. must be congratulated on producing such an amazing experience.

I'm using dual joysticks and pedals. Used HOTAS in the past. Personally I prefer dual joysticks. I've had a really good experience with Thrustmaster t-16000m sticks. Uses the same sensors as the warthog, and you can make them fit left and right hand.

Dual stick, no pedals. Gets the job done very well, I certainly don't feel limited by my controller choice. Can't comment on the other options, haven't tried them.

two sets:
1) Saitek X52 pro HOTAS and trackIR > very precise.
2) Logitech 3D Pro with KB for pip management > very very responsive and very used to it :D

I use a mouse and keyboard, it works well for me. I've got my own custom keybinding set-up though, and I've been playing space games and flight simulators with it for years, so that helps. My KD ratio atm is 4.8, win/loss is 4.2, over 1000 matches completed. As far as I know, most of the people who I know can beat me on a regular basis use some variation of dual joysticks.

I'm using a Xbox Controller (always FA Off)
There are two problems:
Yaw - it is getting easier in course of time (with the bottom of the controller pedal)
Power Management - this time missing the trajectory and aiming

Warthog HOTAS - there is, but it is more difficult, and this is the next step. Required rudder pedals. Need cockpit and seat. Need VR :D

But I think that a bundle - VR and Xbox Controller - it would be for me the most simple and comfortable

Thanks for your comments, guys.
Although opinion seemed split quite evenly across K+M/Hotas/Dual Joystick/Gamepad. Doh...

Personally, I'd not heard of the dual joystick combo. Learn something new every day...
Thanks for the controller cribsheet J.N. I'll be making use of that in the main game - I think I was up to 3 deaths from interdictions directly attributable to not knowing the correct key combination to get out quick enough. That'll help.

So for the time being K+M in CQC; gamepad in main game.

I'll probably go down the Hotas route at some point (mainly for better immersion) - 1st choice this one:

Unless she who must be obeyed says no on price grounds - in which case the T-Flight Hotas X would seem to be a good choice.

For my part, i using gaming keyboard and mouse, no joystick. And talking about controls and driving your ship?
I suggest to remap your keyboard layouts, i just find bad the original settings.

A few pointers? Forget voice controls, or at east only use to secondary and lesser functions where time is not an essence like in a middle of a battle, where is to press a key is just a split second but to give an order?
I also don't suggest too much chatting, or texting, its just splits your attention, it's like using mobile phone in car. the outcome can be devastating. I'm not even like to talk when i play. You either do one, or the another. Sharing your attention in a game, where you already have a dozens of things to do and keep your eyes on it? Not a good idea! Luckily? We don't have the chance to text, in CQC and there is not too much point to use mic in the middle of battle. But it can be useful for coordination in team matches, and at least to type in god kill or nice gg?
