Ship damage system

Hello to all!

DB did already stated that ED will have a very detailed damage modelling of the space ships (SS).... and I am looking forward to it!

I never did like the standard approach in most space games that a solid metal SS would explode in dust if it reached 0% hull..... because 1. its unrealistic and 2. its a waste to damage a SS, I would prefer to salvage it, sell it, use it.......

There is a KS project showing very impressing damage modelling in a car race game.... take a look, I think it is very impressive!

Would be nice if we had that detail and physics in ED....

Yes it would be awesome to see actual damage being inflicted.

This game is really interesting for fans of destruction derby :D
We will see how the damage is managed in alpha test ... just some weeks to wait ;)

Going by what has said previously we will be able to see damage to the hull and since shields are in sections (for larger ships), the damage coming on the hud should also be in sections. Someone (DB?) said that you can target specific sections so that you can disable the ship in order to plunder it. Since systems comes in upgradable modules, those should be able to be monitored individually.
To sum up, yep, you should be able to have realistic damage rather than a boom like a balloon exploding - in saying that, I hope that if you put a hole in the hull where a pressurised section of hull is present that a big hole is blown open rather than a laser pinprick.

It was said somewhere on the forums, that there will be the cemeteries of spaceships. So, we will be able to admire many wrecks

Resurrect, is not it a noble task ?

;)

It would be cool, and probably a lot cheaper than buying a whole ship, if you could have the ship towed (or do it yourself if you have a freighter or other suitably-large ship) to a shipyard, where you can get it fixed up and have it running again. Then you'd have another ship... One that was previously a wreck.

I don't know if this will be possible though.

Perhaps not a complete spaceship, but why not a few pieces ? An engine, a radar, a hyperspace, a forgotten missile, here

Well, even scooping a wreck into the hold of, say an Anaconda would be thinkable... just get it to a port and repair it. Question is: What happens when a ship gets disabled? Is it necessarily utterly destroyed? What if the pilot bails?

I wonder if we can see the damage from within the ship as well.

"My god - was anyone in here ?" - "Aye"

If you mean that there will be holes in the cockpit due to enemy fire, I guess that it would probably have to wait for the upgrade when we can walk around the ship because if that happened then you would either ne dead or in the escape pod.

A pirate does not arise this kind of questions. he takes !
