Newcomer / Intro Ship destroyed

I exited the game with my ship not docked. When I reentered the game I got a warning cabin pressure alert with only a few minutes to fix. I did not know what to do. In addition, all my custom controls were reset. The result was that my ship was destroyed, and I lost about 5,000 hard earned credits in cargo. I have not read anywhere in all your extensive docs about this. :( I take it your ship has to be docked before you leave the game? Do I have to reenter all my custom controls every time I exit, and then reenter the game? If so I think it is crazy, because I put a lot of time into setting up those custom controls.

Ouch that sucks.
No you dont have to be docked.Take some precautions though. Drop out of super cruise before saving and exiting. Make sure you are not close to anything like asteroid fields etc.

I have seen a similar issue with controls in the past. When I changed my flight stick, all the controls reset to default. Also I think it did it once when I just wanted to look at the other control options, clicked on one and it 'forgot' my custom setup. I am always very careful now.

That should not happen unless you were under attack and it takes 15 seconds to log out. By that time your ship is undefended and can be destroyed. If you are sure that you logged out okay. Raise a ticket.

Report the error.
I do a lot of exploring and have to save in deep space, not had this problem YET.

Just hitting escape to bring up the menus (or using the menus) is not exiting, you have to actually "Save and Exit", "Save and Exit to Main Menu" or just close the program down.
Not saying you did it wrong, just adding some clarification, some people in the past have thought that the Pause screen actually stopped the game running.

Sounds like part successful combat log to me ...'. your foe was just unlucky not to completely destroy you

Raise a ticket ..... the server log should be able to show the problem. Don't forget to include times and system location with your ticket info

Plenty of info in this section of the forum on how to log out when NOT @ a station. Use the search function. Info on custom bind saving can be found using the same method

Good luck CMDR

I've not experienced that one. But here's my general tips.

1. When you log out, try to be docked if you can - it seems the safest option.
2. Pressing Esc to bring up the game menu does not "Pause" the game. It's a bug in the game client that it mentions the word Pause. But be better if they called it game menu as then there is no assumption that the game itself pauses - it doesn't
3. Started and chosen the group. The game waits for no one, you cannot pause, so exit the game completely.
4. Combat logging is cheating, it was mentioned about in another post - don't do it. You could get banned - Frontier do look at the logs and I'm sure they can identify combat logging patterns, think about it "interdicted, log out" repeated = combat logging, it's not hard to detect!
5. Don't log out in an asteroid field - those big rocks move, and you don't have a "phase-shifting Federation cloaking device" like The Pegasus from Star Trek: The next generation. You ship will be destroyed rather quickly.
6. Don't walk away from your computer whilst playing elite, even if you are docked - there is a chance that your ship could be destroyed even below deck in the hanger. So best to log out completely to at least the main menu - not the game menu.
7. Make sure that you can afford the ship you are flying - the insurance prices will get more expensive with bigger ships - there are plenty of ways that your ship can blow up leaving you with that "What the..." feeling, yep, that one. So make sure you have enough cash to recover. I personally keep every ship that I buy, that way, I have plan B, C and D ;-)

It was cabin pressure, I was not in super cruise, I had just exited a station then exited the game, foolish me. I did think Esc paused the game, and from what I hear p - (pause) does not pause the game either. This is very surprising I have played hundreds of games in my past and I believe all of them, Esc paused the game, (I usually play single player, I can see why they would do this for MP). I don't remember being under attack but can't be sure I wasn't. I don't believe I had any bounty s on me so I didn't expect an attack.

Well the good news is 5K is practically nothing. Take your sidewinder out to bounty hunt at a resource extraction site or nav beacon and you'll have your 5K back in less than 10 minutes.

Er, the galaxy doesn't stop when you press ESC. Mission timers also keep ticking when you're not playing. The galaxy is live all the time, our avatas log in and out of it.

come on.... make your mind up

If you just exited a station .... you would be in the no fire zone.... no NPC would attack you in that position... not even in pause,,, a player (another CMDR.. would be wiped out by the station in seconds)

get the ticket in

I log out many times a week with my ship parked approx 100Ls away from the system Sun when on a my multi leg trade run... and I've still to suffer any ship loss, by doing so, in the past 3 months

If you were in the no fire zone the only way you could take damage is that something big hit you while your ship was closing down OR the station inadvertently hit you with a laser aimed at another ship, which would put you in combat mode, and leave you being attacked by the station for the 15 second shutdown.
