Horizons Ship dismiss query.

Aloha!

Quick query, if I am on a planet resource collecting with my srv and I dismiss my ship, will it go to a (safe spot?) I tend to play in Mobius private group so what are the odds of an NPC wasting my parked ship while I am out resource collecting?

Regards o7

I'd dismiss to be on the safe side, heard tell of NPC pirates shooting up ships parked on the ground.

I don't usually find any undue delay when recalling (get the odd AI stupidity) so nothing to lose.

I'm pretty sure it despawns, so it's as safe as it can be.

IIRC once you go too far from it in the srv it will dismiss itself, but I may be wrong on that.

You're not wrong; I think limit is 4km from the ship, go further than that and the AI decides its had enough of being planetside....

Thank you for the confirmation o7

Yes, it's safe to dismiss your ship. It cannot be attacked while dismissed. It will show up on the galaxy map as being in the last station you docked at, but in fact it just despawns.

Your ship auto-dismisses when you get more than 2km away (or thereabouts).

Leaving on the ground, however, can be risky. If you have cargo, especially. Ships do come by, even in places you'd never expect, and they will scan your ship and attack it.

I always dismiss the ship if I'm going to be out in the SRV for any length of time.

Safe-ish as I understand. While the ship seems perfectly safe while dismissed, there are reports of ships occasionally crashing and burning during dismissal or recall - I assume due to auto-pilot shortcomings.

I heard of a guy who had somehow put his thrusters on a lower power priority and when he recalled his ship, the thrusters did not work and it crashed into the ground at high speed.

I've never had a problem, but I'm sure there's going to be an occasional bug, just like there is in the docking computer, where it goes haywire.

On the other hand, pirates are a certainty :)

I've done hundreds of recalls and only had one crash. I was in a ravine that was quite narrow. I think it was a bug and FD gave me my credits back.
