Ship hanger size and the sidey....

So in the description the hanger size in the larger ships support up to the sidewinder...

I'd love to see this become a part of our game mechanics a fully independent ship capable of system jumps and carrying a srv......muilticrew potential would be awesome couple up with exploration or any other mechanics of the game would be opened up.

What do you guys think?

If you look at the most current material, you'll find that the 'Sidie has been written out of the SLF hanger lore. FD says no 'Sidies in a hanger.

Prior to the SLF release, I was originally under the assumption that this would be the case due to the original description of the Anaconda and the size of the apparent door on the older ship model.

However, past developer statements about wanting to avoid a "Russian doll" situation have pretty much killed any hopes for ships carrying other full fledged ships.

It was generally expected up until FD was set to release SLF's. It was a disappointment to all when the lore was retcon'd removing that option.

Still...

My Sidey comes at less than 50 tons. My Krait has a 64 ton cargo hold. I don't necessarily want to launch my Sidey from my Krait (or any larger ship), but please let me carry it in my Krait. And perhaps also let me carry currently uninstalled equipment that might or might not fit into my current ship. So I can use my long range Krait to carry my short range fighter/fun ship to wherever I want. A station with Outfitting and Shipyard might be a necessary condition, although I'll also settle for an additional class 6 "maintenance module" that lets me unload and assemble/reconfigure my Sidey at any place I can land. Something like this:

Yes, I know there are SLFs - but those have limitations (range, supercruise, cargo) that the small ships don't have.

It was so obvious what SLFs needed to be and some how frontier missed the hole point. When we learned that we won't be able to launch sideys, or leave mother ship to one place and sc around in SLF or use SLF to pop at outpost, the forums went on fire. Like who would have even thought about leaving those features out of SLF in space game? Apparently frontier. I would have traded hole npc crew system for ability to use SLF as full sidey i deploy from main ship and leave main ship empty and sit still until i come back any day.

Main reason many don't except much from frontier as large part of the player base just go ???????????? when they see how far frontier missed the point on update.

The grammar police indicate that the correct term is a "hangar"= enclosed storage, "hanger"= someone who hangs or a device used to hang garments for storage.

Now if you could put a ship on a hanger for storage, then it would be somewhat correct.

Yes, I'm annoying someone at this moment with this.;)

Needed to be said.

I'd much rather have NPCs piloting any spare ship. Doesn't solve the issue of shortest jump range but maybe we just need to create more handwavium lore that allows them to follow us everywhere.

Even after the SLF the Anaconda was still being listed as being able to house a Sidey, with the note that this was rare and most were only capable of launching SLFs. I've not checked the description since the last update but I hope this hasn't been dropped and would really like to see it some day.. That will require a lot of reworking though I'm sure. Be worth it though I think, perhaps they can sort out SRV control authority at the same time.
