Ship heat vents question.

Now I know there are actions you can do that can make the heat vents automatically glow, and there are no options to manually turn them on, of course. I can activate my Asp's heat vents when I charge the frame-shift drive or go into silent mode, but iv'e seen pictures of ships with neither any of them on, but with the coils glowing anyways.

Is there a situation you can be in to activate them? By floating very close to a star or fire your lasers a lot to produce heat? Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

They will glow all the time but more so I guess when your ship heats up (for whatever reason).

Silent running will stop it as the act of silent running closes the heat vents and switches off your shields. This is why your ship heats up very quickly in that mode but have a minimal external heat signature making it (supposedly) more difficult to detect you on the scanner.

It totally depends on how hot your ships is, get your ship hot and they will glow, get it cold and they won't. If it is for photo ops then the best place to have them consistently open is probably by parking very near a hot star.

Some ships have vents that are completely exposed the whole time- such as the ones on the edges of the Asp. However other ships have vents that open when they get hot enough, such as the Anaconda, Sidewinder and Cobra

If you are fuel scooping, or in fuel scoop range of a star they will open, and if you charge your FSD they will open. Otherwise I think it opens when you are above 60 or 70% heat, but Im not sure about that
