Ship icon in the center of your scanner. [SUGGESTION]

I propose that instead of an arrow there's a scale icon of your ship in the center of your scanner.
I see this giving you a better sense of your size in relation to the distance of other contacts and size/distance of asteroids.

I've tried flying in dark asteroid fields, and even when the scanner is set to linear scale, it's still difficult to get a sense of what's near or far from you, will I scrape by that asteroid or completely miss it?

Is there someone 10 meters from your engine nacelle? Now you'll know.

No, sorry, I don't want my scanner cluttered with an over sized anything. At this point, I think the small cluster of pixels currently at the center of my radar is too much and should be reduced by half or two-thirds.

Besides, you have a scale hologram of your ship immediately to the right of your radar anyway. What the devil would another one at the center of your radar accomplish other than useless clutter?

This wasn't a very well thought out suggestion.

Exactly, there won't be a big unchanging arrow in the middle of the scanner, instead you won't see anything until your scanner is set to a close enough range. Currently if you set the scanner range to minimum and touch the front of your craft to an asteroid you will see a gap between the little arrow in the center and the contact because the arrow doesn't represent anything.

I would do a mock up of what I'm talking about but it seems no one sees the use.
NVM, I did ad an image

This is because there IS no use. There's absolutely no functional benefit from clogging up the radar with more clutter. If you haven't noticed, the HUD in this game is efficiently spartan (as compared to Star Citizen which has a cluttered and bogus HUD full of bloated nonsense).

In 99% of all cases, that scale icon would be pixel sized. So what's the point?

That's it though, it wouldn't be there unless you needed to check how close you are to something by changing the sensor scale.

I totally understand, I don't want useless info on my screen either, but I think my mock-up shows it can be subtle enough to ignore when you don't need it.
You don't see a scale ship helping with avoiding unseen collisions?

PS. Also I don't see the use of the 3d holo of your own ship on the right, I actually hate it, but I didn't want to get off topic.

Uh no. Just, no. That's just pointless clutter. At sensor zoom 2 (2 up from the maximum zoom out), that first ring is about 1KM out. This ship icon is HUUUUUUUUGE and stupid.

That's why I said SCALE ICON. Scale meaning that it represents your ship in proportional dimensions. So you won't see your ship at max scan range, only at the closest.
I get that the idea isn't perfect, but come on.
I'm not happy with the current radar system as it doesn't give you a sense of distance or scale, that's the problem I see and I'm trying to think of ideas to help with that.

Hi, I've been doing some mining and I'd like one more step to zooming in to really get a sense of where bits and pieces are around my ship. I've searched the forum a bit and ran into this thread.

Now, I like the idea of the ship outline on the scanner, but it should scale as OP said. Also, how about a number in the top right corner of the scanner, telling you how big the outlined ring GerminVermin pointed out is. I know that it would appear pixelsized even when a scanner setting of 2 as it is now, but I would like another step in zooming in, where the ship outline makes so much more sense, when it comes to getting your bearings in the immediate vicinity, like in mining situations.
