Newcomer / Intro Ship ID acronym meanings?

Greetings CMDR,

Recently, I began to notice a lot of players naming their ships JCS, JNS, JRS, JMS "Insert Shipname" and I was hoping someone could shed some light on what each acronym means and it's specific relation in the elite dangerous lore.

The only convention I know of is that members of a player group put their group's acronym in brackets in front of the ship's name.
Like so: [EDF] Mothers Finest.

I've been getting back into ED after a year off and apparently, that's the case here. I'm not 100% sure what each letter after the J stands for, but from what I've gathered after my mass Googling the J stands for Wolves of Jonai. Which would explain a lot then, I was under the impression it had something to do with the ED lore. Looks like I was in the presence of some sort of fleet at the starport and I didn't realize it. I'm still kind of curious what each letter after the J means.

Well mine is now the first three lettters of my commander name which is the bit traffic control uses as your call sign and ties it in, approximately, to how real world ATC ID aircraft based on their registration. The numeric part is just the number of the ship in my little fleet.

ship ID's can vary but ones that you are seeing are most likely Player group Acronims, a few is:

CRV - canonn reaserch vessel
CSV - Canonn Science vessel

mine is currently MFMIxx meaning "Mould Federal Mining Incorporated" and my number in the fleet

you can also fit some more fun ones, like "CAKE" or "Mate" or so on

Yeah that makes sense, I guess for veterans who've been around they can easily tell when a ship name is associated with a wing. I've been gone a year and apparently, I still have quite a bit to get caught up on.
