Ship-ID and ship name visual clarification

So, now we have ship ID and shipname. Which one is visible to other player in their panel? Just the shipname? Or both?
I set both them up (even with plates) but other can't see anything but the ship name. Is this working as intended?

I do not understand the ship ID. Is not the control tower of each station supposed to call you by your ship ID? Is not that the all purpose of the ID? Why it isn't happening?

Because those voice actors have probably moved on to bigger and better things by now.

despite the lack of useful answers, here is how it works (discovered by others dvc members)

- shipname is displayed in the primary panel, bottom left corner near the cmdr name
- ship id is displayed ONLY in Contacts tab on the left panel, once the targed has been scanned

imho should be displayed in the priimary panel as well as ship name and cmdr name

Players only see ship names on their HUDs, that is correct. I think if they look on the side panel contacts your ID will be there also..

To me, it's basically just a 2nd Name plate, a purely visual thingy.

However, supposedly (for some reason) according to the Patchnotes, the Ship ID is also included when you Report a Player for what it's worth.
