Ship ID Transponder

I play on xbox. At the moment, the only way I know of to track / hunt another player is by adding them as a friend and finding their location on the galaxy map.

I would like to suggest some gameplay to improve this, based on the lore book Reclaimation.

Ship IDs are now a thing, and can be changed easily. I'd like to suggest being able to buy a new ship transponder (from a shady contact) from some stations, before being able to change the ID to something else.

If you engage a player and they take note of your ID, they can interface with nav beacons to track it to a system, and then a more precise location once in-system. If the transponder has been switched at a station, it may be possible to learn their new ID from the contact for a fee.
This would need the current galaxy map location aspect to be removed though.

Might not be a solid idea on its own, but hopefully someone can improve on it.

So, you're saying that you want to chase a certain person around, killing them whenever they're in open play? Because that's the only thing that idea accomplishes.

I was playing the Bounty hunter role when I thought of it, yes. I can hunt them anyway with the way things are, but this would add an actual mechanic in place of just adding them as a friend. I'm aware its not a perfect idea, just throwing it out there

Well then, let me welcome you to the internet and online games. As it seems to be your first day?

If people can use a mechanic to be terrible, there's approaching a 100% chance that someone is going to. You might not decide to chase people around ganking them, but I'm pretty sure SOMEONE would do it, were it possible.

FDev have already mentioned that tracker limpets are something that they are considering. To make PvP bounty hunting viable then some system to track cmdrs through space and instance with them needs to be in place. I like the idea of been able to get feeds from a bounty board (PF, Faction or Power) of the top x number of the Most Wanted, perhaps limit the number of feeds based on ranks or rep. This would work similar to the friend system, so location info could be relayed to the comms and map but based on ship scans by security and Cmdrs. A few rules would need to be in place to manage this regarding which ship scan data was forwarded by who, regarding, powers/factions and whether report crimes was on or off etc. .

Limpets could be used for those not on the bounty boards, perhaps they could only be removed by a repair facility and have a time limit.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...bounty-board-UI-concept?p=4328539#post4328539 this thread had some good ideas and a mock up.

The ship-ID has only 6 letters. Do you really think that they are unique in space compared to all those ships flying around?
This would be necessary to make it possible and therefor this (a little bit good) idea has no future :(

I'm aware of this, but like I said, it's an idea based on the lore and I'm sure someone could improve on it.

2,565,726,409 combinations.
Assuming you only use A-Z and 0-9 and a "-".

I don't think I've met 2.5 billion ships yet. :p

Okay that is a lot of possibilitys but let us don't forget the human part^^
My one is always BH1-LD on all my ships
BH - Black Hand (of Jaaka)
1 - one of the leaders in our Group
LD - Lucius-Darcia (cmdr name)

We are using these ID's in this way for our playergroup and through this there are already 30 ships with exact this ID because all my ships have it^^
Similar ID's are spread in our group and such scenarios increase the possibility to meet someone with the same ship ID immensely even that there exist more than 2,5 billion possibilitys in general ;)
