Ship Kits & Hit Boxes

Hello CMDRs,

with the new shipkits on the horizon, it would be interesting to know if these kits will alter the hitboxes of our ships.

After all, these kits will make our ships slightly bigger..

So in theory a shot that missed by a hair before could hit our ship on the extended surface of the kit, yea?

Or does "cosmetic only" mean just that?

On another note, i hope the Vulture Kit will look great with the chrome paint and not like plastic parts screwed to a shiny base..

It's a cosmetic; if they adjusted the size of the hitbox, then they'd cease being just a cosmetic, also this would cause issues for some ships which may be forced on to different pads. Cosmetics are just that; they should not affect the core game.

In before someone decides that yes they should have colliders and yes ship kits should increase the size of the ship so yes they can get you killed, or stuck in a docking bay. Because realism.

Thanks for the clarification, i just went ahead and got the Vulture one.. Looks AMAZING as far as i can tell in that dark hangar at Maia Point :)

Much as it pains me..I have to agree with the humourless, arrogant one here. It is similar to shooting the tasteful whale-tail spoiler on Kofey's 1.0L hatchback (No doubt with go-faster stripes [haha]) - no structural damage should occur!..mind you, it's Frontier logic we're talking about, so who knows?

Yes, it's just cosmetic and I am absolutely fine with this - with maybe one exception:
Most frontal "bumpers" of the Vulture's mod kit do actually occlude lateral vision (especially in VR).
I wouldn't mind, if those bumpers would have a real hit-box to protect the canopy "for compensation".
(They definitely give you a more protected feeling right now, as the canopy seems to be nicely nested inbetween them. But this is obviously a false impression.)

The Asp kit isn't bad either. Example:

In line with FD's "no pay-to-win" policy, FD have always said that anything bought in the store with real-world money won't affect gameplay, positively or negatively. That means buying pirate paintjobs won't help or harm your reputation, bobbleheads won't increase your manoeuvrability and spoilers will neither actually make you go faster, nor cause damage if hit with weapons fire. Weapons actually pass right through them.

They apparently didn't think of the PvP advantage a tactical black paintjob could give when they set this policy, but that's another issue.

Next you're gonna tell me that red paint jobs are not making my ships go faster.
