Ship Kits increase hit boxes

Greetings Cmdrs,

It was my understanding before that ship kits do not affect the hit boxes.
But I found today that they do.
Checked on:
Python Mk II Strke Ship Kit (can shoot Bumper 1)
Krait Mk II Ship Kit (can shoot Tail 2 and Bumper 3)

Was this changed on Odyssey?

IIRC it was changed in Ody—ship kits now have collisions due to our ability to jump onto our ships. If I'm not mistaken all weapons (including Odyssey personal weapons) in E: D have physicalized projectiles which might make collisions and damage unseparable from each other.

In any case, the increase in literal attack surfaces of ships has very little actual consequence (except possibly in competitive PvP) since shield tanking is the meta and even hybrid hull tanks like Chief rarely lose shields in PvE, even when fighting 2 or 3 hostiles. IIRC there is/was a curious instance of a certain kit piece on a certain ship extending past the shield bubble, though🤪

no it isn't. Flying shieldless ships is quite popular with AX crowd to reduce temps, I bombed all the titans in a shieldless Krait so increase in the surface is crucial here since I rely heavily on avoiding damage by all means possible. Flying with a kit makes you a bigger target for goids, and there's lots of them around titans shooting at you, and I did notice incurring more damage when I kitted out my krait.

I occasionally fly Phantom with shipkit for AX and didn't notice any increase in damage taken compared to kitless Krait MKII🤷‍♀️

For Thargoid Titan assaults I fly a shieldless Krait MK2 with the Raider ship kit fitted. If there is a negative impact caused by the increased surface area, then it's pretty trivial in my experience.

Always should have. Having parts of a ship that look like they are present but actually aren't when your bullets strike was never a good idea.

But yes it was a change in Ody.
I agree but the reasoning was that ship kits were meant to be cosmetic only and have no effect/advantage in the game. With Odyssey, that becoming a critical inconsistency rather than just a slight one might be one of the reasons why some of the newer ship kits have functional lights on the them which permit a slight game improvement, as ship kits after Odyssey couldn't technically be marketed as cosmetic only, so why not lean a bit into it?

I felt that way also, having solid looking parts that are not really there didn't seem right.
But now it is more like pay2lose... although this reflects reality since many suits and dresses people wear
to look good hinders movement ...
And how about those ladies that sergically enhance their boing boing assets ,
doesn't that increase their hit boxes and hinders athletic performance?:ROFLMAO:
