Considering that we can't see our own kits during regular flight, this would be an easy way to give that to the player and fulfill that sense of reward for the purchase.
If other NPC ships use those kit peices, it would also provide a lot of variety for the targeting experience in general.

Just pointing out: on my Krait MK II i can see a part of my ship kit during flight. I really love these nonsensical antenna structure over my cockpit.
That being said, i also agree: if fleet carriers can display the ship kits, then it's about time that our actual ships do the same. You have your own ship on your display for much more time than any fleet carrier, too, so it would absolutely be worth it!

This is something I asked for a long time ago for our normal ships to help us enjoy our ship kits. If you can do this for FCs, why not for regular ships? It's about time FDev.
Those holograms look to be individual models rather than an actual image of the target so with FCs they only needed to design 4 hologram models. With ship kits we can mix and match up to 16 different addons per ship, that's quickly going to extrapolate out to a lot of holograms for all the possible variations of 1 ship, now multiply that out by the number of ships and you're probably looking at 1000s of models to cover all the variants possible.
Still it would be cool if they figured it out
