Ship Lights

This isn't the first time I've raised this issue, but I'd like to put it out there again; Why are the ship lights so damned useless? Is there some dude out on the bow of the ship with a Dolphin torch? Because that's about how useful they are. I have a car from the 1960's that has better headlights than my Federal Corvette in 3303...

Fdev, can we get a 10x multiplier for the headlights, please?

Apparently it's for the sake of performance. Although if that's the case it would be nice to have a graphics setting for it so everybody could pick what their system can handle.

why do we need lights? Surely there would be some nightvision style hud projection.

I use Hulk lighting (Gamma) :D

Personally I'd prefer an option to turn off the lights *inside* the cockpit - not the instrumentation but the light bars attached to the inside bulkheads of most ships. They're far too bright.

As a fan of the Imperial ships, I couldn't agree more. Brightly lit cockpits don't make any sense when we spend so much time looking out the canopy.

OP I agree :) The lights need a little more juice, too be really usefull. But it does vary much with ship type, ie very convenient on Python, on 'Conda you cant see anything anyway, just follow the sonar alarms + good shields :)

Now can we have the Radar on the 'Conda Beta Version put on the outside ? Then we dont need no friggen' lights :D...

I find the lights make mining a bit more comfortable. When the asteroid is pitch black, lighting up so I can see better helps me avoid it if it spins my way.

Let's see...

1. Ship looks cool when taking screenshots.
1. Flash them for greeting another player.
2. Light up remote planetary stations and deep canyons when flying in close.
3. Send/receive Morse code to drive other players crazy.

Headlights have always been a bit of a problem, but it was purely a performance issue that's prevented them being more useful. I remember around launch they literally couldn't light up an asteroid until you were nose to nose with it, but they were made more powerful when the devs found the means to optimise the lighting engine. They're still not great but much better than what we had before, and I expect they'll be revisited in future whenever further optimisations are made in that area.

Oh Yes, I would really like that. Never thought much about it back when I played normally, but in the vive all those lights are a nightmare due to godrays. And the lights on the hotas are amongst the worst offenders, they godray substantially even when not in the viewfield.

Some strobes would be a nice touch. Missing recognition lights for some while now, headlights for miners and explorers. Yep.[up]
