Elite / Frontier ship models

"Looking very good".

I like the top detail around the thruster,have you tried a bevel on the armor it might take that hard edge of it.but don't go nuts with the tool.:)

Yeah - I will eventually clean up all the hard edges - I'm basically blocking the ship out still - altho I've gotten a bit sidetracked on a few things - I will finess and detail a little further down the line.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Steve! really good stuff, keep it up can't wait to see the next development!

Well - went off on holiday to Egypt - came back and decided to learn some other techniques to apply to the modeling. This is just the end result of some playing around - the thruster is waaaaay too big for a top thruster especially when you compare it to the retros (which should probably be bigger considering the stopping job they have to take care of). But as an application of around 3 new learned techniques I'm reasonably happy. Hopefully over the next few weeks I can start hitting the detailing in anger, it's time this thing started to get some shape.

@Steve O B Have:
Very impressive work. I haven't really read this thread earlier, and therefore missed all your nice concept drawings. As someone else wrote, send in a job application to Frontier Developments immediately. :)

In what program have you done this? I'm at the moment programing my own 3D graphic engine at my spare time (mostly for fun) and are using Real3D wireframe data for the models. For the moment I'm using my own self made, ->very<- boring, models. And it would have been nice to have some nice spaceship models to twist and turn if you are willing to share. :)

Heh thanks for the kind words Zmurf but I have a looooooong way to go before I am even close to the ability or standard (let along the speed) required to work for a games developer - but that doesn't mean that I can't have a bit of fun with dreaming stuff up.

The application that I am using is Autodesk 3DS Max. If there is a format that you can work with I am happy to flick the model your way but it is far from complete.

Steve that's really cool: it's got that great engineering thing of looking beautiful because it it is purely functional, if you know what I mean!! Just completely convincing.
Keep up the good work: the forum died when you went to Egypt!

Cheers! That was the plan - we'll have to see how it develops I think.

I've only really had time to mess around today because it's Thanksgiving in the US and the rest of the world seems to scream to a halt. I suspect that things will pick up again tomorrow but I'll try to keep at the model and keep putting updates on here.

While not in the same league as some of the excellent models here, bear in mind this was done for a mod in Freelancer. Here's a Thargoid Mothership i helped put together. I've got a Cobra Mk.III floating around as well that we did
