Ship Name Censorship and Knowledge

Commanders,

I was recently a bit miffed to find out I've been flying around with a ship name that was O****************R. OMS Quasar Vibrator. Which part is so damn offensive to a game where most of the players are men over 30? The Quasar part? Or, the Vibrator part? Now, while the Cutter *does look like a vibrator with and oral stimulators... it doesn't *have to mean a sex toy. Which made me go through all my ship names.
Frontier, you HAVE to, I mean absolutely 100% MUST, hook up a way so that I know INSTANTLY whether my ship name is censored or not.
Also, your system makes ZERO sense at all.
Because, after this incident I not only went through my ship names, but say that with my brother just putting all kinds of words in to see which ones are censored, and which ones aren't.
Felching... all good. You can have Felching in your ships name, but not Vibrator. Blumpkin is out, too. However, you're all good with Felching.
Frontier, you need to put out, at the least, a complete list of censored terms and even word groups your censor filter is looking for. For instance, Vibratory didn't make the list either. Felching though... ALL good.
Or, more to the point, let me know right away if my ship name is censored. I don't see how that would be a difficult task for you to inform us while in Livery that the ship name is going to be censored.
And, make a list that makes SENSE. NOBODY is offended by the word, or even concept, of Vibrator.
Can we please get realistic, practical and mature about this? (Says the guy who tested the word 'felching' on censorship).

Repped for the giggle :p

I've seen a couple of ship names all asterisked out in the past and have let the CMDRs know in chat. Turns out that they were, like you, completely oblivious that their ship names were censored. For the most part, this is genuinely unintended ship naming.

So I totally agree with you, if your ship name is censored, it should display as O*************R in the cockpit as well as visibly to other CMDRs.

I also totally agree that some form of pop-up message that states - this ship name will be censored, please choose another one.

Cheerz

(I wonder whether cockpit is going to be censored in my forum reply. If so, replace the word with flight deck. Or dong,hole-in-the-earth.)

Edit: to my great surprise, the word cockpit made the cut and escaped the forum filter. Unlike some forums I've used in the past. I once organised a meet for a car forum at a pub called The Woodcock. OMG That was a difficult gig to organise, because nobody could see where we were supposed to meet and for a long time I didn't want to try to bypass the filter... then someone wanted to organise a meet in - a large former-industrial town in north Lincolnshire with a bad swear word embedded in its name. LOL.

Hmmm. You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to give a notification at least.

No Man's Sky - which allows players to name pretty much anything they discover, systems, planets, animal, plants... you name it (literally) - has a profanity filter and it just flat out rejects things that are on its list but it also tells you so you can just pick something else.

Definitely need a heads up when your name is censored. I flew around with Slave 1 on my vulture for a long time because I had no idea it was censored. I mean c'mon... You can buy and sell slaves in the game lol!!!

Funny thing...the other day I ran across a system that had been discovered by a CMDR "John Han****."

Also, I don't know what "felching" is...and am afraid to ask and or google the term.

A lot more than I thought possible. But that still doesn't stop seeing a Commander named "Manfaced Missiletits" on the First Discovered By: on star systems south of Sothis.

Good luck with this though.

Well that didn't even work in here, it changed automatically to Shorpe? What the hell is a shorpe.

I was suggesting "The (certain town in Lincolnshire west of Grimsby) Express". But I guess that is a universal forum thing.

I had to rename my Python to Snake Eater. It was named Serpent Trafficker and it was all asterisks out.

I dont know what qualifies considering my main ship name in my sig license flies its colors everyday.

Near the current CG in HR 7047 I was tickled to see systems on the map called "TURD WU" and "PIAPONNUS" - naughty old Galaxy Map. ;)

BTW - I agree we should know if the censor is at work.

for me was censored 'Pulse Shark' where 'Pulse' was the issue *facepalm*. The best however is, that (how I understand it), that they manually added ship name back and it was autocensured again. So whatsoever that function is, it works weird at best.

I suspect it might be User Injected. I remember seeing a ship called the "Kiss My Spock".

It got censored shortly after that...

I do fully support the request to rework the profanity tool in use.
Make it to have some sense and acting with some AI. Others already do.
My "***tant in the Deep" is waiting to be seen as what it is.
