Ship name length - is it definitely 22 characters?

Hi all, I'm trying to add a name to my ship, it's 2 words, 22 characters total, including a space, and after entering the name, the field returns to blank.
Removing the space (now 21 characters total) I get a name too long warning...

Is there a "physical" limitation that overrides the character limit - i.e. if you have high character count combined with wide characters (m / w etc.)?

22 is the max number of characters it will take, but yes, there is also a 'physical length' restriction. All W's for example, would not work well.

Yep. Just tested this.

I can get 22 I's in, but only 13 W's.

I shall not be calling my FDL "Thunderwing Doomslayer" after all then

"Thunderwing" will have to suffice

you know, this suuupersized ship, and than such a tiny writing on it. could have been on the lighter grey area and 2x as big.
