Hi Y'all,

Ok, fair enough...we don't have ship naming yet, but some of you have named your ships I'm sure and there's some ship names referred to in a few posts.

How many CMDR's have used Iain M. Banks, Culture like naming conventions?

I have many names for ships

My favourites:

Clipper- Tydirium

Asp- Ship with no name MKII

DBE- Moist Von Lipwig

Cobra- Bessie

Haulers: Challenger, Atlantis, Discovery, Endeavour and Columbia

And when I buy a Python It shall be called The Full Monty

Not me...I use more conventional naming.

DBX: Endless Transit (she's an explorer)
Imperial Eagle: Lady Arissa
Imperial Courier: Emperor's Hand
Imperial Clipper: Lady Sandra (named for my Fiancee)
Asp: Long Haul (named after her maiden voyages were for the Hutton CG)
Federal Dropship: RDS Centurion (system defense ship for my home system, and my group's player faction Red Dice Systems)
Type 6: Bertha

I tend to use mythology for my naming convention: once I have decided on the intended role of my acquisition, I hunt through Pantheon.org for inspiration. That's how my DBX got her name of Gudridur

I only use Banksian ship names.

  • DB Scout: ROU Pick Your Poison
  • FDL: GCU Running Out Of Miracles
  • Cobra: VFP Lovely Little Thrills
  • Python: GSV Gentle Metal
  • Asp Explorer: GSV Silent Nod Of Condescending Approval, The
  • I. Courier: VFP Hardly Armless
  • I. Clipper: GCU The Gravitas Is In Another Castle

I have a bunch of friends I play games with and we always call our group ICC after some in jokes of ours.

Our ships are always tagged ICCS.

My favorite is ICCS Irata because she is a furious girl, fast, being a Cobra MkIII.

Second favorite is ICCS Expedius. A DBX who loves being alone.
