Ship Names with Accents/Special Characters

During the beta I was able to name my ship with accented characters, although the outfitting interface didn't show them correctly until you applied it. For instance my Cobra was Chúl an Chnoic. I submitted a bug report during the beta but it looks like they fixed it by not allowing any special characters. Since release, if I paste in or use the alt+code entry I am unable to use accented characters.

Has anyone had any luck using any characters besides 0-9 and A-Z?

I use an Asterix between my ship names:

Example: ADSC * ROCINANTE

That symbol looks like a STAR on the name plate which is cool. Haven't tried any others since I got the look I was after.

The asterisk is an ASCII printable character so I would assume that is allowed.

I get the feeling FD decided to limit the text entry field to printable ASCII characters only. Seems like a major limitation as the rest of the interface, HUD, etc supports Unicode from the looks of it.

Are you saying you are able to enter characters with umlauts?

I might put in a bug report but I'd like to see if it's just my system for some reason.

A lot of people from countries that use diacritics play this game. I'm guessing the text chat handles more than ASCII printable characters, I know the ship name field in the HUD was okay with my ship name, it was just the entry field that didn't, showing 2 characters and working correctly after entry.

Perhaps the nameplates can't handle more than ASCII?
