Me little shipyard always holds a good variety. Life would be boring otherwise

My character's of German descent, so I pick German names - my Python's the Greifswald.

...although sometimes I just temporarily change ship names for the hell of it, just because you can.

Named for the Culture series Iain M. Banks:

Python: No Fixed Abode
Cobra Mk3: Hidden Income
Ieagle: Shoot Them Later

Named in homage:

Icourier: Jake Logan (space flight combat game protagonist voiced by Bruce Campbell)
Viper Mk4: Red 5 (looks like a snow speeder with whie paint)
Orca: Hudson's Arcturian (because it don't matter when it arcturian)
Anaconda:

Mythical:

Vulture: Mazikeen (a demon)

Random:

IClipper: Erratic Vector (early experiences with fa off)
Eagle mk2: Wake Runner (wake scanning)
Asp x: Doodlebug (it sounds like one)
DBX: Stones Throw (eats the klyies effortlessly)
Type 6: Khit Sicked (no hidden meaning, honest)
Sidewinder: Drunken Squirrel (i only fly it with fa off)

I look at the ship and just name it.

Like, my Cobra is named : Pancake.

My python: Rammstein. (its my miner atm)

My Dolphin White Nomad.

the Anny : The Flying Dutchman.. (obviously)

My DBX : Mosquito.

Vulture got my wife's name because she's just as vicious.. Ect ect.

But, nothin is fixed. My Cobra for instance is now my raider ship, and Pancake doesn't really fit her now.. So..

I like Griefswald. that's tasty. Prefer Schwarzwald though :D I might go German for my next. Plus a million internets for you.
I hadn't considered Schwarzwald, but I might as I rather like it - maybe for a Corvette (big, imposing, probably easy to get lost in... ) whenever I get one.

Absolutely love Tintin and Discworld, my childhood right there! :D

As for me:
AspX: Ship With No Name MKII
DBX: Moist Von Lipwig
Python: (The full) Monty
Courier: Aouda (After the Indian princess from 80 days around the world)
Clipper: Tydirium
Cobra MKIII: Bessie
Vulture: Spock (When I first got it I kept calling it a Vulcan)
FDS: Deja Vu
Various Haulers: Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavour
Dolphin: Sonorous Cetacean

I'm not creative so I just went for the obvious:

Red corvette - Ruby

Anaconda - Curiosity

Vulture - Surge detected

Killer orca - Bad juju

And I have a couple more without a name at all

Based upon the canine line.... I have them preceded by ISS for "Independent Star Ship"

For some reason, when I saw my Fed Dropship, I thought: ISS Bulldog
Then, upgraded to a Python and thought: ISS Timberwolf
My final named ship, which is an Adder: ISS Pug

It's to my lasting regret that "The Crimson Permanent Assurance" won't fit. Was probably a bit much to ask. It fits without the 'permanent' bit though, which adequately describes my clipper in a proper combat scenario ;)

I try to be creative. Goal is to make someone smile if they scan me.

Cutter: Mass Lock 27

Python: Lollipop ... because she's a good ship

Clipper: Catch Me if You Can ... boosts to almost 600 mps

DBX: Beagle's Bounty ... named for my honorable canine co-pilot

Dolphin: Flipper's Fortune ... I couldn't resist a dolphin reference here

I still have a Courier and AspX that haven't been named since they've been in the garage since the update.

I'm a bit like Dusty, I stare at the ship for a while and see what comes up.
Some of my ship's name are a reference to my personal feel about it, the Conda is called Cooper's Pride because I'm proud of it, my Python is called Cooper's Fortune because that's what it has done for me, accumulate a fortune.
Cooper is my last name in English btw.

Other names I use are

My starter Sidewinder, Cooper's Genesis.
My Cutter, Cooper's Conquest
FDL, Sum of al Fears
Gunship, Ravager
AspX, WayFarer
Cobra mk3, Scalawag
DBX, Nomad
etc.

I usually name mine after some of Nick Cave's songs:
Vulture- red right hand
Clipper- Lyre of Orpheus
Dbx- More News From Nowhere
T7-Easy money
Cobra- Midnight Man

Cutter = ice wraith (my girlfriend came up with it)
Anaconda = StuGmuffen. .Idk.
Fdl = jormungand (you know world eating snake from Norse mythology. )
Still working on my small ship names.
