Ship outfitting.

Hello, this is a relatively minor gripe. How ever it's something that does make me dread a certain aspect of the game. That thing is the Ship Outfitting menu in game. I think my mouse scroll wheel is going to go on strike before long.
Is there any chance we could get an overhaul FD?

http://coriolis.io/ has a really good user interface and I think its something that if implemented could be quite a valuable addition to the game, if minor.

Thank you.

Fully agree, Coriolis is a great program, I use it now for all my planning when upgrading the Vulture. Only go into the Outfitting screen to buy and install (if the module is there that is).

Good post, Rep deserved and given!

Oooh nice interface!!

You know what else I'd like to see is how the various mods actually scale according to best capacity....ie be able to see shield strength graphically see that move up or down depending on how much weight you slap into the hull, max jump distance for the ship and then when you slap on the modules your current ship rating shifts up/down, see weapon damage comparisons better etc etc

My guess is they wanted to sacrifice a full layout (like the very nice one you link to in the OP) for the ability to show close-ups of the ship's exterior. However, that brings up another small problem that, for larger ships, I can't tell where I am half the time. I click on the third utility slot and get a big grey field with a rectangular hatch. I have no idea if this in on the right or left, front or back. Is my chaff going to spit out my nose or fly out my ...erm, posterior??

In short, I think your option would be nicer for any internally located module or in the event they don't make the external stuff a little more clear with some animation zooming in on the area or something.

Agree, it's horrendous. Been using EDShipyard myself, not for the UI, but for actual information. Spec all ships there, then blindly buy and setup stuff in-game. Zero failure rate.

Indeed.....it would also be nice to have a cool off / try before you buy period or at least not have to lose 10% of your value if you decided the equipment you bought wasnt what you were looking for eeeeeespecially when talking around big value stuff like buying a conda, python or really expensive modules :)

The 10% module resale penalty has been shelved ;)

Actually I would like to take your idea a step further. FD could add a module to the training package. Two systems, with a coriolis station, a platform/outpost station, and even a RES in each system. In the main station is a fully equipped shipyard with every ship in the game, and naturally in the outfitting side has every module, every weapon in the game - all at no cost!
.
There you can select your ship, fit it out as you want or wish, then take it for a fly. Test the weapons out on the NPCs at the RES, fly to the other system to check out the fuel scoop and scanners. You get to see how much your "ideal" ship costs and how it handles.
.
I think it would save a lot of time for players and also save a lot of mistakes in buying the wrong ship, weapon or module, finding out you don't like it, but then finding you can't locate your old one to buy back.

I don't think that's necessary. There are plenty of tools available already to check setups. It's just the UI in game that is absolutely terrible.

I still think it would be fun to be able to try things out. For example I just mucked around with the weapons load out on my Vulture. Sure the new setup is effective but it just doesn't sound as good as the old set up lol
.
Same goes for the actual ship. A mate of mine worked he butt off to earn enough for a Python, finally got it then found out he didn't enjoy flying it, not nimble enough for him. Expensive exercise for him to go backwards.

One of the most useful components in Coriolis is the module power analysis tool, that can save you a lot of expensive mistakes :)

I agree.
If you could just 'filter' items. So when I click on my class 6 module I don't get 60 options to scroll through. I do not want to put a class 2 cargo hatch there thank you.
An option to filter (not sort) by module type and size. So say you could filter to only show 'shields' and only show 'class 6'. It would make it a lot easier. I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet.

Even the ability to type in the name of the module you're looking for would be a god send!

Been using EDShipyard for some time, saved me a lot of time and money.
Balancing ship for weapons, power, weight and FSD important to get right, your life/ship might depend on it.

Had this problem in mechwarrior online, mech lab crap and slow to use due to graphic interface. With web page versions quicker to use and able to see layout all at once with data on modules.
Sadly unable to pass information from web site to game due to security issues.
