Ship prices vary between stations?

I've seen Vipers vary in price between 60+k and 90+k and the type 6 trader ship I've seen for both 150+k and 220+k. Is the price really cheaper or do you get less weapons and other gear if you choose the cheaper variant?

Nope, they do vary in price depending on station now. But it's the same ship.

The problem I am having is that the stations I'm visiting have no ships at all for sale!

How do you guys feel about this? It seems that some players will be kind of ripped-off, simply because they are not aware about this. I'm not even sure if it's true, or if it simply calculates the price based on the ship you have right now.

Can someone actually confirm that this is true, because so far it's more like a speculation, not a fact.

Actually I think the prices vary because of your cargo and ship fitting. All you got on your ship fitted and loaded will be taken into account when buying a new one. Shipprices themselves are consistent on all systems afaik.

It calculates the prices based on your current ship, loadout, even cargo. So don't change your loadout make sure your cargo hold is empty and maybe even fuel at 100% and then you should see identical prices at different systems. Prices were lower at launch of Beta so that is a factor that has confused people as well.

Market forces.
Fords are cheaper in America.

Also make sure you're not being misled by having cargo on board your ship.
The value of that cargo is taken into account when the purchase price of the new ship is calculated.
If the ship is 100k and you have 50k of cargo on board the the buy price will be 50k.
If you sell your cargo then the buy price of the new ship will be back to 100k.
I'm ignoring the value of your current ship and fitments in this.

A big thing to remember too is that if you have any cargo on your ship then the value of this is deducted from the quoted price of the ship. For example, a ship costs, lets say, 50,000cr. But if you have 10,000cr worth of cargo on your ship when you look in the shipyard it will say 40,000cr.

Be aware that your current cargo, hull, and loadout affects the ship prices. They are trade in prices.

The big variances you are seeing might well be whether or not you had cargo on board.

*EDIT* Spivved!

This.
You get 90% value of your ship, equipment and cargo as trade-in against your new ship. New ship prices do not vary.

Sometimes the Viper bugs, and won't give you trade-in on your equipment, so sell it all off before you trade in your Viper.

I feel slightly pleased, with a sort off tingling in my fingers. I do however have a solution, you could ask the devs to build you a special station where all the ships are brought so all you lazy cmdrs can sit a peruse all the ships in all the colours and all the prices. Then you will be able to forget all about the fact that this a space sim in which most of the fun is EXPLORING!!!!!!!!

Would it be a problem if the price did vary? At a high tech world the price would (should) be lower than at a agricultural world.
