Ship recall on-foot distance very large

In Odyssey when I am out doing exobiology I often dismiss and then recall the ship while seated in my SRV. When possible this will bring my ship to within a few hundred meters from where my SRV is located. However, when I recall the ship while on-foot my ship will land over 1000 meters away, even though closer options are available.

Before I log a ticket or anything, has anybody else noticed this?

Interesting, can't say I'd noticed but then again I'm usually in the SRV. Is this in the same kind of scenario? (e.g. you're not standing near a settlement or Thargoid structure when on foot are you ... because I guess the ship may have to land outside a controlled zone in those situations).

I'm usually out in deep space. I can be in an empty plain for instance with lots of room to land (I could land my ASP blindfolded without hitting a thing) and my ship lands 1500 meters away after I've recalled it on foot. If I recall the ship while in my SRV I have to make sure it doesn't try to land on top of me.

Depends on the terrain usually.
generally yes. actually? uhhh. debatable :D
i take my time to find a perfetly nice straight spot with no rocks, ship lands over the mountain on rocks with 2/3 landing gear feet in the air and a big boulder right under the srv bay so i cant get it in :D

This has been going on for years. In or out of the SRV doesn't matter. The ship just chooses poorly sometimes. Some see it frequently, others see it rarely. There's no rhyme or reason to it. It's too random to fix, so we have to live with it. I always try to stay well within 2 Km of my ship for this reason.

It's just up to whatever the auto-landing algorithm can figure out, which is sometimes quite far away (but always within 2km) unless it actually can't find a spot, in which case you'll get an error message.

Then again, sometimes it lands right next to you despite rocks and bumps. :)

It's nothing to worry about. It's actually kind of impressive that the auto-lander can do it at all, considering the randomness of terrain.

sometimes you can get the hover thingy as well. where the ship just hovers ominously above the ground. luckily this usually stil provides the blue circles, which i guess in this case function the same way as the goauld ones... :p

given that you need a module to do that when you are in cockpit, it is absouletly marvelous that the ship can do it by itself without the module when you arent there indeed. ^^

ps: nice db :3

The recall feature was likely designed with the SRV driving to said spot in mind - not walking.

Just saying.

not that I can give much credit to Fdev these days for forethought >.>;;;

If I recall the ship while on foot, then enter the SRV, the ship will try to land very far away and at time even dismiss itself due to ending up out of range. That is a very consistent issue and regardless of terrain.

:D S

recall ship and immediately enter srv
or
recall ship, wait for it to drop and start descent and then enter srv?
in my experience there is (might be) difference
Failure is more consistent when entering the SRV before the ship materialises. It also happens from time to time when waiting for it to appear first. It is possible to stand beside the SRV and watch the ship go on a tiki tour before fluttering away again.

If recalled from inside the SRV, there are only problems if the terrain is extremely rugged.

I've never seen that far of a distance but then I'm usually in combat. In an on foot combat zone upon completion the ship comes back at about 450 meters. Then I learned that a combat session can be restarted in an SRV. I park one near the settlement

I dunno, given some of the strange decisions they've made I wouldn't put it past them to consider that "gameplay". :ROFLMAO:
