Ship repairs and scanners

So it occurs to me, as an explorer, that the new repair limpets, while a very good idea and one I've been waiting for for a long time, aren't exactly practical. In order to use them you need to use up 2 slots; one for the repair limpet controller and a second slot for a cargo bay to hold the limpets. As an explorer, I don't have much use for hauling cargo, so to be forced to use up a valuable slot just so I can carry limpets is frustrating to say the least.

I'm flying an AspX at the moment and all optional slots are used for what I see as essential "exploring" equipment; advanced and detailed scanners (x2 slots taken), shield (essential), Planetary vehicle hangar and SRV (for collecting synthesis materials), fuel scoop (essential), AFMS (essential), and so on. I have one slot left which would be PERFECT for the Hull repair limpet controller, except the module is useless unless you also have a further spare slot for a cargo bay. So what do I do? Get rid of the SRV bay? No, I'd need that for collecting materials to synthesise into limpets. Do I sacrifice module repair for Hull repair by getting rid of the AFMS? That's doesn't make sense either. Do I get rid of one of my scanners? Or my shield? Or my fuel scoop?
I'm an EXPLORER for crying out loud!

Why on earth is Hull repair not included in the AFMS? You need to synthesise materials to create limpets anyway, just as AFMS uses collected materials (or so I'm led to believe), so why not have the AFMS do both jobs?
Also, the ship has a REBOOT/REPAIR function. So that's THREE separate repair functions: repair limpets, AFMS and Reboot/Repair (unless the latter just uses the AFMS - I honestly don't know). Seems like overkill to me. Why not have one repair module that repairs everything?

And while I'm at it; why two scanners taking up two slots? Why can't the detailed scanner slot into a sub-slot in the Advanced/Intermediate/Basic Discovery scanner module, the exact same way a Fighter or SRV slots into a Fighter/SRV bay?

The hull repair controller could do the same i.e. slot into a sub-slot of sorts in the AFMS. Or flipping that idea on its head, scrap the AFMS entirely and have the repair limpets do the repairs on modules as well as hull. In fact, this would open up additional gameplay mechanics. I.e. search and rescue missions where you have to help out stranded pilots by firing off limpits to repair their damaged hulls, power plants, FSDs etc. I can also see the Fuel Rats helping out fellow pilots in the same way.

Consolidating some of these essential Explorer modules would go some way towards enhancing exploration . Just some thoughts for consideration, FDEV.
