Horizons Ship Scanned

Is there a way to stop being scanned, each I get scanned my passengers complain. That means unhappy bunnies and less credits maybe in the future,and it's not something I caused or can do anything about,so far.

[woah]

A couple of tips - boost out of range, silent running (i think helps), or fire a shot at the perpetrator stops the scan (although this may cause complaints for other reasons....)

When you get a passenger that doesn't like to be scanned, you should treat the mission like smuggling: spit chaft and stay in silent mode. Drop a heat sink if necessary. The time you take to scan a beacon or get into a station is quite short, so you can be in silent running with no problem.

I noticed that when I'm carrying passengers, I get scanned much more frequently. And also...boosting away doesn't seem to work that well any more.

So, as a general rule, you want to PREVENT being scanned, as getting away from an initiated scan may get you in other trouble.

To prevent scans: spit chaft often and stay in silent running (it's supposed to make it hard for systems to target you).

To escape an initiated scan:
- boost away (as Serpentis said);
- target the one who scans you and take out your weapons (also as Serpentis recommended);
- if you're entering a station, go through the mail slot fast; it will stop the scan as soon as you're in; however, lately I noticed scans that I escape like this, get finished when I get back out of the station; don't know if it's a bug or not.

In any case, there is no bullet proof solution.

It's the stations that are scanning me.
Unless they have changed things; it is not the station scanning you. It is the ships outside the stations doing it.

How to avoid. One sure fire way is, speed. It takes 7 to 10 seconds for a scan to complete. So don't be in range or in line of sight, before the timer runs out.

Chaff does nothing. It is based on heat and line of sight.

Pop heat sinks from about 5km out and keep your heat at zero. Go fast and don't fly next to the security ships.

If you hear "Scan detected" you can still survive by entering the Station and breaking line of sight to the security ship that is scanning you.

Chaff does fight the scan off. I carry 2 chaff systems. I fire each one a few seconds apart, I have plenty of time to get into station or land at base. Go try to warrant scan someone who is popping chaff.
You can target but not scan until the chaff has cleared.

No you are wrong, chaff does not cancel NPC scans on players or fight it off.

The KWS scanner for players is disrupted by chaff. This has nothing to do with NPC's scanning you at Stations.

The chaff effect is just in your mind.

If you are being scanned by the authority ships around a station, the best thing is to get in the station as soon as possible.

What really helps is to correctly align yourself in super cruise so when you drop into normal space you are facing the docking slot. This means you can boost straight at the station and get into the station before anyone has a chance to scan you. Even if a scan starts you should be able to get into the station and break the line of sight to the scanning ship and stop the scan.

The station docking slot faces the planet or body it orbits so if you position yourself in super cruise so you drop out with the planet behind you the station docking slot should be facing you or at least be in view so you can boost straight at the station and only have to make minor course corrections to align yourself with the slot.

I have been taking multiple missions in my anaconda (not the fastest ship) where I don't want to be scanned by the station forces and I have either not been scanned or got into the station before a scan completes by following the above method.

No sorry, but I have been smuggling for a long, long time. And this always works.
You don't have to silent run or pop heat sinks or any of that.
So I guess the millions I have made from smuggling and never got scanned or fined was in my mind.
May be I was real lucky.

This chaff question has been going in this forum since 2014. I just spent some time reading the multitude of post about it. Seems some say it works, some say it doesn't, some say it depends on the your vector to the scanner.
So we need a real test here in 2016. For me It has never failed me but I'm pumping out chaff every 5 seconds with multiple chaff system (sometimes 3, i never wait for reload).

Many thanks to all you cmdr's for your suggest. I'm sure the problem will have been cure once I get back on and try them.

Again many thanks to all :)
