Ship Scans

Been away from the game for awhile and came back for 2.1. Have the game mechanics of authority vessels changed with regards to scanning?

  • I was running to a black market in an orbital and was through the entry slot, half way to my assigned landing pad when I got notice of a ship scan. Got a fine within seconds. I thought you were safe from scans once you entered the station.

  • In USS I've noticed that when I get notification of a scan, it's only a matter of a few seconds before the notice of a fine. When I scan another ship it takes much longer, so are NPCs cheating now with their scans?

NPCs have always been able to scan through the slot.
Once you are through, rotate your ship out of the line of sight asap.

Frontier have said (somewhere. I cant find it right now), that NPCs are subject to the same scanning rules as players.
However, my experience is that they do seem to be exceedingly good and quick at it.
I don't think they cheat per-se, but they are of course, much quicker at getting their ship oriented, and it would be hard for a mere human to match their reaction time.

NPCs do "cheat" in other ways, such as the eagle which can magically jump 30+ LY, but mainly this is due to the instancing mechanic.
