Ship shot down INSTANTLY after getting tangled in equipment, lost ship, now have bounty, what to do..,

Peaceful law-abiding galactic citizen here, just had a problem at a certain station with the landing"...because I couldn't find the landing pad, like, anywhere...whole I was looking for it my cobra got tangled in a bit of equipment and I couldn't get it disengaged quickly enough for them so they SHOT ME DOWN COLD So fast!

Bad enough they cost me 60k in insurance, when I was not even a hostile presence in the station, just a slightly inept pilot (at the time, tired, usually I have no problem at all)...but now I have a BOUNTY on me...which I've never had.

so, question. Please, what do I do about this, and will I get shot down by bounty hunters now???
for a parking accident? Really?

it says, under 'dormant bounties', "1,000 CR bounty in movement for Ratri Resistance 6D 22H 23"

i went back back to the station after getting bounced back to the last place I was, was threatened by the cops around the station, but no shots fired. I landed fine, and found I could not pay the bounty, it didn't show up under contacts where you pay fines and where bounties are listed.

what can I do now?

i can't believe they shot down my beautiful kitted out Cobra, and I lost all my cargo, etc... And SO QUICKLY! What should I have done in that situation by the way? I've never taken more than 20 sec to get out of one of their warnings...didn't know they could blow up my ship instantly. I couldn't power away obviously, and couldn't shoot them back (even if I wanted to there was no time with the instant kill.

advice?

will I be shot at by the cops wherever I go now?

:S

Dorment bounties will only become active if a cop scans you. If a bounty hunter wanted to get you it should be a bounty. But you can pay these of as long as they are dorment.

Once the red timer reaches 0 you are going to die and that's a fact. Did it do that? If not did you maybe hit a ship that possibly died? Because you shouldn't even get a dorment bounty just for dying while blocking a pad.

If you hover over a pad that isn't yours for more than 30 seconds consider yourself dead. Not even an FDL with the fastest engines and the strongest shields could survive that.

As I said you can pay dorment bounties, is it still dorment and are you at the station it happaned at? Because a bounty is only local to the system it happaned.

I thought you had to wait until the dormant bounty has been dormant for 7 days, and then it becomes a "Legacy Fine", which you can then pay off?

A similar thing happened to me early on in the game - I was heading out of the station and got smacked by a much larger ship coming in, it spun me round and I got tangled in various pylons which resulted in my destruction, but I didn't get a bounty for it.

I did get a 600Cr local bounty once for accidentally shooting someone, but it became dormant after 15 mins. I haven't been back to the system to pay the legacy fine, can't even remember where it was.

From the wiki:
Once the bounty has expired it will become dormant. A dormant bounty will not be displayed to other players or jurisdictions [1]. A dormant bounty can be reactivated if the player is scanned by an NPC from the jurisdiction that issued the dormant bounty, or if the player commits a further crime in the jurisdiction that issued the dormant bounty. If the dormant bounty is detected in either of these ways within seven days it will become an active bounty again with a new seven day timer. If a dormant bounty is not detected within seven days then it is removed and becomes a legacy fine.

I had been confused about dormant bounties, I just thought they were bounties that could no longer be acted on.

Bounties are only active in the system that you got them, so you won't be hunted down or anything. If another player used a kill-warrant scanner on you then they would be able to kill you in another system to get your bounty but good luck to them finding where to actually hand that in :p.

One quick tip is to use the compass once you have docking permission. It shows the direction to the landing pad once you're inside a station, or from afar for Outposts. Essential for emergency landings when your canopy is blown out. Also if you're docking in a station and the landing pad is right at the entrance, you'll overshoot it easily. You get to know the pad numbers off by heart after a few trips, but 13, 16 and 34 are the ones right at the door for a small ship. If you get allocated one of them, go in slowly, move aside from the slot to avoid thumpage, then get your bearings and drop straight down onto it.

You need to stay away from that system until it becomes a fine. If you don't and you get scanned again by the system authorities (which will turn your dormant bounty active *and* reset the clock on it), well be prepared to explode again...

Yes you will have to wait, you can't just pay it off.

So does this mean any player or NPC will try to shoot me down for a bounty, anywhere, or just in that system? For a parking violation??

the NPCs too?? I mean, most of them try to shoot me down anyway, but at least some are peaceful...

sounds like iike I should play solo until this bounty becomes payable-off...

also a good reason why, if I decide to do some bounty hunting, I should stick to bounties on NPCs. I'd hate to shoot down a player just because he had a mishap at a space station! There should be some distinction, so you can tell if a player is a pirate with a bounty, or just has a parking violation. It's a mean universe out there! ;-)

and no, a ship didn't crash into me, I just timed out trying to get loose from some equipment my ship was tangled up in. By the way, I'm accustomed to trying to land on those platforms just inside the station. I'm 90% sure my assigned landing platform didn't exist in this station. I've had that happen before, and I just exited out, and when I came back in the game, they put me outside, and I could try again to land.

but thanks for the heads up about the compass, I'll try to see what you mean there, wasn't aware of it.

thanks

Yes, another player can kill you for the bounty in any system. The NPCs are not smart enough to know you have a bounty on your head. You can speed things up by buying a Sidewinder and taking it out into space and self destruct. You will spawn again in the station in a Sidewinder, sell it and return to your ship. That puts the bounty into dormant mode for 7 days. It then becomes Legacy bounty, and you can return to the system and pay the fine.

Except like I said before - he needs to stay away from that system. Otherwise system security scan / station / boom.

Its not that big of a deal... I netted about 1.2 million in bounties last weekend and haven't had any issues with NPCs, however I haven't gone back to those systems either.

Edit** I also have about 2 mil in fines Alliance space they can shove where the sun don't shine too... All of this from smuggling and killing a handful of cops cause of the double scanning...

LOL this is what my transactions screen would have looked like after last weekend as well...

I use the "buy a sidewinder and shoot at cops at a nav point, while in a system you could care less about" method. But, then again I imagine with all those bounties, the game gets more interesting.
