Ship skins

Just been looking at the piant jobs, do people actually throw money away on these, £10 for a chrome skin come on we should be able to do our own piant jobs, like in forza or give us decal layers like in need for speed. Just imagine the uproar if Microsoft charged this amount in the next forza game.

Yeah we do. I own every paintjob for the python, a full pack for the Asp, a full pack for the Viper Mk3, two packs and the gold skin for the conda, and seveal odd skins for eagles cobra 3's and sidey. Planning on getting the gold skin and ship kit for the sidey, then engineering plasma slug rails for it.

If you dont want to buy them then dont. Nobody is forcing you to. Its a way to keep the development going. ED isnt some huge triple A title with millions of millions of players playing it especially on console. They have to pay their team some way and keep the progress going. The skins are a way that people can show their appreciation and isnt very expensive at all. Some would cost you three dollars. If three dollars is going to break the bank maybe you should start thinking about alittle less time on the couch and a little more being somewhat productive. All in all im all for helping out fdev and paying for things that i want to pay for

I've brought a fair few, couldn't actually say how many from memory. Although they are on the pricey side I'm happy to pay it because (as mentioned above) it keeps cash rolling back to FD. Like any business, they need to make a profit to continue to do what it is they do. If ED became unprofitable then that would mean no more ED which (to myself at least) is a terrifying thought!

Also factor in that the base game was cheap anyway plus add to that the sheer amount or hours fun this game has given me and, again, I'm happy to cough up the cash if I see something in the store I like the look of :D

Skins, Bobblheads, Ship kits and such are (as much as I like them) are really juat gravy. The game is perfectly playable without them. They are optional extras, nothing more. If you like them, think they will enhance your ED experience and are lucky enough to be able to afford them then go for it. If not, then don't.

I'll definitely be buying more stuff as it's released depending on which ships they add Skin/Kits for. I'm by no means rolling in cash (I'm a mechanic of the two wheeled variety) but I'm looking forward to seeing what FD come up with in the future and they can definitely count on some income from this Toad! :D

*gestures to FD to hurrry up and waves large wedge of credits in their general direction*

Even with the FPSs I play (BF,cod, borderlands...), I usually stick with the default color/design on everything even after I've unlocked all the camo designs. I hadn't thought about it in terms of income for FD. I'm good with that and will be getting some skins/bobbleheads. Thank you for the perspective.

Be glad.
In fact, be very glad, that Frontier is not... yanno... say... EA? Or, perhaps Ubisoft?

How nice would it be, if we had paintjobs. It would be awesome.

But lets say they were really trying to be savvy & evil & gave us a Sidewinder & that was it. No upgrades, no ships, nothing. Everything else had to be unlocked with "packs" Oh, sure, you could unlock everything in game, but it would take the equivalent of three in-game years to do so.

Meanwhile, n00bs would be running around with A-rated Annie's crashing into everything. Screw that. I'll buy a paintjob. It's the lesser (much, much lesser) of the two evils.

That said... I would like to see a lot more options for the paints. At least make them across the board available to all ships or somthing. But, oh well.

So much this. I give Frontier props for not going down the path of other developers.

Elite has given me a whole lot of joy since I picked it up last December. I love this game, and if throwing in some extra change that will lead to better content down the road in exchange for some nice paint jobs, then so be it. I don't mind, I have the money and I'll spend it on whatever I want.

Yea its a way of backing the game. And this title cant be compared to forza which is a Microsoft game.

And I'm from Yorkshire too but I'm not a tight      when it comes to spending on Elite. ;)

^this. Buying skins helps fund future development. On Xbox in particular it helps us to demonstrate that it's a platform worthy of continuing development for. If you don't want to spend money on skins or can't afford to, you don't have to.

I do agree that proper paint & decal customisation forza-style would be amazing though. Hope this makes it in at some point.

I bought added carp for the asp, cobra and type 6 and spent less money than I did on WOT I. had paint on various tanks I kept and bought premium tanks on top as well so a £5 or so is reasonable comoared to paying £30 for a tier 8 tank so I think it's not bad really they could have asked for outrageous prices if they wanted to

We also consider it a way to support the further development of this unique space sim project.

But I am also very critical of the prices myself. I do not dish out 10 bucks for a chrome skin.
I do tend to wait for discounts, unless a skin is more than just a plain mono coulour affair.

I do own a lot of skins and skin packs.
Most I bought for my favourite ship... the Python.
