Newcomer / Intro ship slowing down

why does my ship slow down when approaching planets / stars? i don't tell my ship to slow, but the ship magically does.
this is vey annoying when you just want to fly past the planet/sun.

if its gravity related, shouldn't the ship speed up when approaching and only slow down when distancing? (would be cool, if that was the case, as i could do slingshot)
its prettuy unrealistic and annoying.

is there anyway to turn that off?

Gravity is interfering with your drives, limiting your top speed even when at full throttle.

In short NO
It's just the way the game works and it has nothing to do with gravity it's supposed to be you ships computer that automatic slow your ship when approaching an objekt....

It can be a pain when you want to go fast as you say but it could be a BIG PAIN if it was left up to me to fully control the speed at all times. :) They may have discovered this early on in testing.

yes imaging NOT having the FA at all that could be a pain when docking or just simply flyng in SC.... around the star especially if you could actually ran you ship into a planet/star or as I tried yesterday a black hole... ;)

It's that way when you have a target selected for approach. But you slow down when just passing celestial bodies and you can hear the engines straining. The size of this "drag" bubble is proportional to the size of the object. This doesn't happen when zipping past signal sources that aren't selected (as they effectively have no gravity).

Maybe it's suppose to simulate gravity when passing a celestial body but otherwise there is not much of gravity at works in the game and gravity certently wont slow you down when approaching a planet as well as try to slow you down when leving it again so I wouldn't say this game has gravity in the sence of how gravit y actually works so it's more like our SC and hyperspace jump it's not a real concept it's made to make the game fun to play and it really doesn't matter if it's real or not 'cause it still just a game nothing more... so if you imagine it to be gravity then fine we call it gravity...
And just for your information everything that has a mass has gravity even you as a person it just not very much compared to a planet or a sun.. ;)

Oh, it's not simulating gravity at all. If you park at 0 velocity next to a celestial body you aren't going to fall into it (depending on where you are, it may run into you as it moves in its orbit). What I mean is that the "gravity field" is interfering with the FSD engines, creating a sort of "drag" that slows you down. Just engaging FSD is screwed up by interference from large nearby masses.

That's why I said "effectively have no gravity". Aside from the game not simulating "gravity" or mass for these objects while in supercruise, any gravitational effect is negligible from what would be in a signal source when you are over several megameters away while in supercruise.
