Ship sounds

I know this has been discussed several times before, but I haven't seen a discussion on it in a while.

I like space ships which mostly sound like rockets! Ships need to have distinctive sounds, but I don't like it when a ship sounds more like a car with head gasket problems or more like a prop airplane than a space ship.

Based on this thinking, I'll give you a few couple examples.

I do like sounds of:
  • the Sidewinder.
  • the Cobra.
  • the Type-10 because it sounds like a big ship with big rockets!
  • the Hauler because it sounds like a small rocket ship crossed with the jingle bells sound of Santa's Slay!
  • the Kraits.
  • the DBX and DBS.
  • the Challenger, Chieftain and Crusader.
  • the Cutter because it sounds like a rocket ship with the fait sound of dead slaves weeping in the background. ;)
I don't like the sound of:
  • the Asp Explorer because it sounds more like a twin engine prop plane than a rocket ship.
  • the Python because it sounds more like a 70s car than a rocket ship.
  • the car with bad head gaskets sound of the Vulture.
  • the Adder because it sounds too much like my garbage disposal grind up forks.

In general with all ships:
  • I dislike many of the super cruise sounds like the bad rubbing tire in the wheel well sound you get especially when you're fast orbiting a planet.

What I like to know is what ship sounds do you like and dislike and why?

My likes & dislikes are mostly opposite to yours, I think the kraits are over-sampled, trying too hard to sound like something from star wars. The python is agreeable, easy to live with long term without becoming irritating (the AspX fails this long term test).

My favourites from flying the ship are the cobra mkiii and the corvette, both have a distinct character I like in all circumstances.

The AspS sounds flat & uninteresting but doesn't become irritating long term, I use them more than either krait ;)
