Wouldn't it be nice and really awesome if there was a benefit to each ship that made it unique? Nothing radical that would break the game, but something along the lines of how the passenger ships are the only ships to carry Luxury cabins... which is theoretically supposed to be where the money is with passenger missions, but not something that is well executed.
I have owned a cobra and sold it for my asp x, which is definitely in most ways superior when choosing what ship would help me best achieve certain goals.
I have almost 0 reason to go back to flying those ships, and as a result, end up flying less than 3 on a consistent basis.
I would propose ship bonuses, things uniquely attributed to them that you couldn't get anywhere else.
Some examples:
DBX's have a ~50% time to charging FSD's (making them an excellent contender for the explorer)
Trade ships like the Type 9 have a 1% bonus to commodity payouts
Granted the examples are small but just random things I thought of that I think would bring more diversity to the ships I see and use, and thusly, encourage me to return to elite
